About this listen

Ty Wilcox doesn’t really believe in superheroes. Then one is murdered right in front of him.

Ty is just a normal guy trying to do his best. He’s single, stuck in a dead-end job with the most hateful boss in the universe, and struggling under a mountain of debt. When he witnesses an impossible battle between two superpowered people, every instinct he has tells him to run. Instead, he becomes the owner of a device that can change his life in ways he can barely imagine. All he has to do is survive for long enough to learn how to use it.

Warning and minor spoilers: Enhancer is a book intended for mature listeners ages 18 years and older. It describes sex, violence, and nudity. It includes light gamelit elements, occasional bad language, and is set in a cyberpunk alternate future. Within its pages, you will find attempted murders, actual murder, home invasions, kidnapping, fights, betrayals, destruction of property, random deaths that can be considered self-defense, a really malevolent boss who treats Ty very badly, and a monstrous bad guy who treats him even worse. Most importantly, you will find gorgeous superheroes and beastkin beauties who are comfortable with unconventional, polyamorous, harem relationships, and there are waffles on offer, as well.

Listen at your own risk.

Superhero story with my favorite power...

I went into this book expecting it would be the recent trend of superhero and/or LitRPG harem books with a loser main character who gets the ability to strengthen the people (read: beautiful women) around him and ends up just doing whatever they say and getting alternately praised and teased/insulted by them. And some of that is true here! Buuut, luckily not all of it. The main character is a bit more appealing than many others in similar stories mainly in that: he is not a total idiot! Surprisingly rare in these genres. He also wants to take action, and uses his abilities to allow himself to, rather than just hiding behind more effective compatriots. I was happy that the author didn't overly focus on the sexual content- it was a comparatively small percentage of the work, and less explicit than others. Personally, I want the focus of a fantasy/LitRPG/superhero/scifi novel to be the plot and characters- sex is fine if it adds to either, but it shouldn't occupy so much time that the other factors take a backseat. I enjoyed the powers and look forward to meeting more heroes and villains and seeing what else the main character can do with his power!

There were many moments in the book that matched up fully with similar books- little stood out as unique. There were no twists or surprises. Maybe in future books they'll surprise me, but the shadowy villain seems painfully obvious at this point. Sometimes the protagonist fell into a part of the genre that gets grating, repeating "Blahblah couldn't believe that only 3 days before his life was so bad but now it was so good/different". This is fine once in a while but a dozen times leads to eyerolls.

Overall, if you like superhero books, I think this one is worth your credit. If you enjoyed Tamer: King of Dinosaurs and The Builder's Sword, this is in that area, though I'd rate it as a better than the latter and on par or superior than the former. I'll certainly be reading book 2, which hopefully is on its way!

The superhero game

I was given a copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review. Stuck in a dead end life, Ty doesn't have the money to go back to school to earn the paper that proves he has the skills to pay the bills. Out of nowhere a bracelet falls into his lap that allows him to have superhuman abilities and brings him into the orbit of two beautiful women as he tries to discover what the mystery behind the bracelets are and what the men chasing him plan to do with them. Good narration and flow, the story is full of action and adventure.

A very good start.

I liked the attention to detail that was given to the gadgets and the different voices and speech patterns of most of the characters. One I disliked - when ones hears that person, it will be obvious

I was given a free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Actually I was given copies of the 1st 3 books. More reviews to come.

Very Ok

The story itself was as expected, not a bad idea and it works. The execution ehhh not so much. MC as stated in many other reviews does indeed make some bone head decisions that'll have you saying to yourself "Ok cool, but why?" unlike most stories I've listened to from the genre the sex is more so fade to black with you picking up in the aftermath. The description you get of those around the MC is very meh as well. I found myself having to look at the cover art to really build a picture of what these people look like and the villian took on someone resembling a scuff/lazy juggernaut in my head. Chris Graves probably saved this audio book for me because while the story was pretty meh, his voice acting wasnt. It gave the characters more life than the story did.

Well, Whata ya Know

Apparently I don't know everything I tell everyone that I do. After reading the summary closer, my first thought was that I should have paid closer attention when requesting this.
Boy, was I surprised. Being a female, and an old one at that, I really enjoyed these first 3 audio's in this "Man's Fantasy World".
I'll even say it's a cutesy kinda love story, with bad guys. It's definitely for the mature adult. The intimate scenes are tastefully done, and do not go on forever, taking away from the story.
Thank you very much.
The narrator did an excellent job performing all the characters.

good start to the series

I was a little worried at the beginning as I thought it was going to be a MC that is just whiny and always second guessing himself. I was pleased with how it turned out in the end even if it didn't end the way I had hoped.

A great series to add

I had added this to my collection after reading the synopsis and ended up enjoying it without question. I certainly look forward to hearing more in the future and am excited to see how the story unfolds.

Narrator is okay, story is a bit flat

In the end I stuck with this because I'm curious enough about the story. It is interesting enough for me to want to listen to the next. The narrator doesnt have the greatest range of voices, many sound very similar and lack real life. After I'm no one is looking." That is asinine. And who in their right mind turns down the opportunity to be a super hero because he has rent to pay? You telling me Tempest and Dina dont get paid for being heroes? Then how does it work? Just give this a try, you will know what all I'm talking about. I think I just see the potential so I'm hyper aware of the flaws. like i said, I'm still going to get the next one.

Hoofs! Why!?

Very fast paced and cool, a little sexy but thankfully not to much for my liking, superhero/ villain litrpg. Starting the 2nd book tomorrow!
