About this listen

From the bestselling author of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, a fiendishly fun locked room (train) murder mystery that "offers a tip of the hat to the great Agatha Christie novel while at the same time being a modern reinvention of it" (Nita Prose)—perfect for fans of Richard Osman and Anthony Horowitz

When the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society invited me to their crime-writing festival aboard the Ghan, the famous train between Darwin and Adelaide, I was hoping for some inspiration for my second book. Fiction, this time: I needed a break from real people killing each other. Obviously, that didn’t pan out.

The program is a who’s who of crime writing royalty:

the debut writer (me!)

the forensic science writer

the blockbuster writer

the legal thriller writer

the literary writer

the psychological suspense writer

But when one of us is murdered, the remaining authors quickly turn into five detectives. Together, we should know how to solve a crime.

Of course, we should also know how to commit one.

How can you find a killer when all the suspects know how to get away with murder?

Editorial Review

All aboard!
I wanted to go on an outrageous, thrilling, yet fun ride with my first listen of 2024, and Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect delivered! As soon as I read the premise I thought, yes, put me on a train with a group of mystery writers, agents, publishers, editors, and fans as we journey from Darwin to Adelaide to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society. Of course, someone onboard ends up dead. Which expert sleuth will figure it out first? Whodunit? This is where the fun is. A telltale sign of a good story: As soon as I finished, I immediately downloaded Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone—where author Benjamin Stevenson first introduces his main character, Ernest Cunningham. I hear there might be a movie or TV show coming (rights have been secured), and I sure hope a third novel is in the works. —Tricia F., Audible Editor

Slightly convoluted

I loved his book "Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone " but this one got a little confusing. I found it harder to track the characters and the story line got pretty tangly at the end.

Only finished because I used a credit

This book was not for me. Too many characters that were just hard to keep straight.

Outstanding!

I loved this so much! I finished in one sitting. My only sorrow is I will now have to wait a year or more for the next one. Please let there be a next one. Don’t miss it! Benjamin Stevens is the master of our time.

the characters, are well developed

This well paced murder mystery provides just enough information to stay engaged, but not too much to spoil the ending. looking forward to the next one!

Murder shouldn’t be fun, but here it is.

This book was just as clever as the first; however, the number of characters is a lot to keep up with, but perhaps the confusion it causes is deliberate. That said. I loved it!

The narrator is great! What a fun story! I really enjoyed the first book and I am glad the second one was just as great

Ok

This book was not as good as the first book. The story was a bit far fetched and there were a lot of names and characters to keep track of.

Clever sequel

Love the character of Ernest and the mystery does prove to be a complicated and satisfying one. I liked the first one a bit better

Frustrating

The book is fine. A little too convoluted, much like his other books. Relatively entertaining though. The thing that drives me batty is that this author uses all variations of the word ASSUME far too often and the narrator pronounces it ASHUME. I understand that is part of the Australian vernacular, but it crawls up my spine every time I hear it. Super distracting.
