Publisher's summary

At last we know that stress really is a killer. After age 40, years of accumulated stress, poor coping skills, and a slowing metabolism leave many women dramatically overweight and physically unfit. This toxic weight puts a woman in jeopardy for serious health risks: diabetes, hypertension, heart disease. By incorporating nutrition management into her medical practice, Pamela Peeke developed a program that helps women break this cycle and shed the dangerous pounds.

Fight Fat After Forty presents Dr. Peeke's program, which is based on "Three Sacred Templates." Adding physical activity into daily routines leads to weight loss, better body mass and a more attractive shape. Learning what and when to eat puts a woman in charge of her diet and reduces stress-induced cravings. Developing a stress-resilient attitude eliminates poor self-care and the resulting worry-weight-and-waist syndrome that leads to extra pounds.

This practical and proven guide is especially timely in light of new studies warning Americans about their ever-increasing weight.

Great Author and an excellent book!

I came across Dr Pamela Peeke a few years ago and have read all her books. She is easy to understand and really knowledgeable on female fat loss.

Good for beginners

this book is an excellent start for those who are clueless as to where to begin with their healthy lifestyle living. however if you are a little more Savvy like me (I'm a physical therapist), you will find a lot of the advice redundant and very basic. it is helpful for motivation and a few tips. ultimately some of the advice seems antiquated. for example she promotes dairy products frequently for snacks. A very large percent of the population is lactose intolerant. although dairy products are usually tasty, they are unnecessary and there are plenty of alternatives for protein and calcium. Also, I did not find the exercise tips helpful as they are too general and it really isn't necessary to use free weights above 8 lbs as a person can easily use their own body weight for many exercise such as push-ups. overall I found it to be mostly useful in beginning the process of being motivated for a healthier lifestyle.

Good insight for women over 40!

Would you consider the audio edition of Fight Fat After Forty to be better than the print version?

The audio version of this book was excellent since it was read by the author, however it would be nice to have the print version because Pamela Peeke, makes mention of a few charts from the book, which we have to download from the site. I enjoyed listening to it in the car as I traveled to worked. It helped me to stay focused on my meals, and what I would be eating.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fight Fat After Forty?

"Eat after 8, you will gain weight!" LOL, I have been much more proactive in eating at an earlier hour now. If I am hungry for something to munch on after 8:00 pm., I usually drink a glass of water or sip a cup of tea.

Which character – as performed by Pamela Peeke – was your favorite?

There were no characters in the book, but Pamela Peeke's voice was easy to listen to.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire book moved me to change my eating habits and get back to my exercise routines!

Wealth of Information

I found the information in this book to be extremely helpful. I have a better understanding of the changes my body has undergone. I will use this book as a reference for life. My issue was the narrator, something about her voice had me struggling to listen, so I often took breaks.

Bad food science

The advice on hormones, stress, exercise and planning is good but the science used on the diet part is completely wrong and uses the old calorie in - calorie out theory. This is like 30+ years old food science and proven to be wrong no matter the age of the individual.
