About this listen

Inside a maximum-security prison cell, Abby Maddox is serving 20 years for slashing Seattle PD officer Jerry Isaac's throat during the harrowing capture of her former lover, serial killer Ethan Wolfe. To the demented fans, lunatics, and creeps on the outside, she is a celebrity. But to Jerry, now a private investigator whose scarred neck and tortured speech are daily reminders of Abby's vicious attack, she alone may be the key to solving a new wave of murders. Because this killer has been sending her love letters, and carving a message on the victims' bodies: Free Abby Maddox.

With the help of intuitive criminology student Danny Mercy, Puget Sound State professor Sheila Tao, and seasoned detective Mike Torrance, Jerry must coax the shattering truth from isolated, dangerous Abby - before her number one fan takes another life in the name of a killer's perverted idea of justice.

It was ok

Freak by Jennifer Hillier brings back the familiar characters I enjoyed in Creep, which added a nice layer of continuity. However, the story itself didn’t quite live up to my expectations. It lacked the twists and suspense I was hoping for, and the ending felt rushed, leaving me wanting a bit more. Overall, it’s a decent read but doesn’t reach the level of excitement or complexity I’d hoped for. 3 stars.

Very detailed.

The narrator was terrible. She slurred her words and sounded like she had a mouthful of saliva at all times.

Great Book

I don’t know why people complained about the narrator in other reviews. I think she did a fantastic job!

Loved BUT part 3 needed!

A great ride to flow along with but WAY too many unanswered questions at end of book 2 and then the killer rides off into the sunset while others basically bleed to death whether physically or emotionally. That is what left me disturbed. Nobody wants to see the “psycho killers” get away with it and live a life of wealth!

Character with vocal chord damage

I have to agree the narrators depiction of the character with vocal damage was extremely hard to listen to. Unfortunately the character is a main character therefore quickly becoming annoying. The narrator does a good job with the other characters. The book definitely kept my interest throughout but I was disappointed with the ending. Many unanswered questions.

Narrator’s voice doing “wounded Jerry”

The story is good, narrator is ok doing other voices although it seems like she has too much saliva or something sometimes. But good God. I’m still trying to finish this book and her voice for Jerry after his injury is unbearable.

Good Story; Questionable Narration.

I really like the author and she does a good job telling a story. I did like this one but it fell just a little bit short of my expectations only because I felt the author could have fleshed out the characters just a little bit more. But overall it was a good story. As for the narrator, she had her moments in which she sold the story very well but it appears she has challenges in speaking certain phrases. I'm not sure if it's a struggle working around dental work or recovery from a stroke or perhaps some other issue but it was distracting at times. I'm looking forward to the next installment, however, and I do hope the narration improves.
