About this listen

Mutiny is threatened. Madness festers. Treachery is never far away.

War rages in the north. As the Varin Knights march to join Tukor in their conflict against Rasalan, Elyon Daecar finds himself embroiled in a world of secrets and lies. Saska has one goal: to assassinate Lord Kastor. Posing as a captured servant girl, she infiltrates the Kastor warcamp to face her demons, but before long finds herself hopelessly out of her depth. Enemies close in, old and new…and history has a habit of repeating itself.

Driven by the whispers of a long dead god, Jonik seeks a new purpose as he’s pursued by the order he betrayed. His journey will take him south, across the paths of men and monsters. Some seek to slay him; others to help guide him. And all the while his legend spreads.

With the Warrior King plotting to take full control of the north, sinister forces stir in the south. Some fight to stall war, others seek to incite it, as chaos and calamity threaten to engulf all the world. Kings will fall, champions will rise, secrets and prophesies will be unearthed.

The next great Renewal approaches, they say. But will it be the last?

Each book in the series is better.

I am looking forward to the next book. Excellent listen, and I was tense, elated, worried and carried away by the many diverse characters.

great epic fantasy

this book took a bit longer to get going than the 1st one but once the plot started moving and the political machinations unveiled themselves the book is hard to put down.

Very Enjoyable

The characters are really great. Their personalities differ greatly and the details of their backgrounds and interactions work so well to bring them to life. The hero’s are true and the villains make you want to jump into the story and make them pay for their evil deeds. The world building is very well done and Steven Brand has a voice that I could listen to endlessly. I’m looking forward to the next book and the opportunity to find some answers to the many secrets woven into the tale.

A Plot Mover

While the first book is filled with interesting characters and a rich world with some great storytelling, the plot doesn't move very far or very fast. T.C. Edge has such a wild and robust imagination that the first book seemed to be a kind of a "Greetings! Let me show you around the place" first entry. If you get my meaning. not boring or. anything, just a cantering pace. Book 2, let the plot "off the chain" as the kids say.
