About this listen
A New York Times bestselling author and veteran Fox Business financial journalist’s explosive deep-dive into the progressive madness that has infected and corrupted the world’s biggest corporations, threatening the stability of the global economy—and life as we know it.
How did a bunch of rich dudes who run corporate America become the tools of left-wing radicals? Intimidated by activists on the left, virtually every major corporation in America has embraced woke politics. For years, these businesses could get away with progressive virtual signaling without worrying about alienating customers. Then the anti-woke counter-offensive movement arrived. As high-profile, disastrous backlashes at companies like Anheuser-Busch, Disney, Target and other companies reveal, companies who cave to the demands of left-wing social justice activists are being punished like never before. Customers are fighting back and taking their money elsewhere.
In Go Woke, Go Broke, New York Times bestselling author and veteran financial journalist Charles Gasparino calls out the nonsense and takes listeners inside the radicalization of corporate America, based on numerous insider interviews and exclusive reporting. The story is wilder than you can imagine. Gasparino introduces listeners to America’s most woke corporate leaders, tracing the origins of ESG and "stakeholder investing.” He takes listeners along on for a rollicking ride through corporate America as he shines a light, unlike anyone else, on Fortune 500 companies that have suffered for caving to the silly and irresponsible demands of social justice activists and left-wing interests.
A respected financial reporter who has covered finance for more than 30 years, Gasparino is deeply sourced and has dug into countless episodes involving Wall Street greed, corporate hubris, and government overreach in enterprise. This explosive, untold story and in-depth examination of the seminal players, institutions, and forces of the markets shows that, for the sake of global stability, we must immediately pry the clenched fists of radical activists off the levers of the economy.

Story
Free speech is a human right, and the free expression of thought is at the very essence of being human. The United States was founded on this premise, and the First Amendment remains the single greatest constitutional commitment to the right of free expression in history. Yet there is a systemic effort to bar opposing viewpoints on subjects ranging from racial discrimination to police abuse, from climate change to gender equity. The Indispensable Right places the current attacks on free speech in their proper historical, legal, and political context.

Story
In the 1990s, Democrats supported balanced budgets, smaller government, border security, equal opportunity (not outcomes), reducing the deficit, and prioritizing blue-collar issues. However, according to Joe Concha, these are things that Democrats are against now. Today, Democrats want people to believe that they know what is morally right and that they have always supported their current views. However, Concha argues that nothing sums up the Democrats better than John Kerry's famous quote, "I actually did vote for the $87 billion, before I voted against it."

It’s rare that a campaign season has anything like an IRS whistleblower and a California US attorney saying they were blocked from pursuing charges, foreign wire transfers of millions of dollars going to several members of politician’s family, suspicious slap-on-the-wrist plea deals, mounds of incrimination texts, a previously unacknowledged child with a stripper, and multiple congressional investigations. It’s unprecedented to have them all tied to one politician like Joe Biden.

It's time to turn the tables and end this abusive manipulation once and for all. And former liberal activist and Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce shows how. In Fear Itself, you’ll see that none of this is normal nor is it organic. And, most important, you’ll see that it can be defeated. Overcoming the weaponization of fear first requires recognizing it. Once we’re no longer in the dark, defeating it becomes second nature as we take back control of our lives and the destiny of our country.

Story
Today’s conservatives know what they’re against. They’re anti-woke, anti-globalist, anti-big government. But what exactly do they stand for? The fact that this is a hard question to answer is a damning indictment of the modern Republican Party which has abjectly failed to articulate an affirmative alternative to the left’s vision. Ramaswamy calls on the conservative movement to articulate exactly what it stands for, or else warns of another illusory “red wave” in 2024.

Over just the last few decades, laws in this nation have exploded in number; they are increasingly complex; and the punishments they carry are increasingly severe. Some of these laws come from our elected representatives, but many now come from agency officials largely insulated from democratic accountability. In Over Ruled, Neil Gorsuch and Janie Nitze explore these developments and the human toll so much law can carry for ordinary Americans.

The War on Warriors uncovers the deep roots of our dysfunction—a society that has forgotten the men who take risks, cut through red tape, and get their hands dirty. The only kind of men prepared to face the dangers that the Left pretends don’t exist. Unlike issues of education or taxes or crime, this problem doesn’t have a zip code solution. We can’t move away from it. We can’t avoid it. We have only one Pentagon. Either we take it back or surrender it altogether.

I remained a Democrat for twenty years, albeit with an independent streak." Today that party is unrecognizable.

War can settle disputes, topple tyrants, and bend the trajectory of civilization—sometimes to the breaking point. From Troy to Hiroshima, moments when war has ended in utter annihilation have reverberated through the centuries, signaling the end of political systems, cultures, and epochs. Though much has changed over the millennia, human nature remains the same. In The End of Everything, military historian Victor Davis Hanson narrates a series of sieges and sackings that span the age of antiquity to the conquest of the New World to show how societies descend into barbarism and obliteration.

J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Critic reviews
“Long before I even knew what ‘woke’ was, Charlie Gasparino was reporting on a strange leftward lurch among businesses that had nothing to do with making money, but everything to do with making a political statement. I figured it would pass, but there was Charlie pestering me about this movement morphing into something else—a mob, a woke mob, and a very costly mob at that. He details in these pages how it spread, but offers a timely warning it is not entirely slain. Be warned, the fight has changed. But leave it to the best business journalist on the planet to remind us all…the fight is far from over.”—Neil Cavuto, Fox News
“Go Woke, Go Broke is the definitive history of corporate America's failed experiment with woke politics. It offers a stark warning to every business leader considering putting politics ahead of profits and activism ahead of shareholders. Go Woke, Go Broke is woke capitalism's epitaph. Everyone should read it.”—Bernie Marcus, co-founder, The Home Depot and philanthropist
"In this bold new work of investigative excellence, Charles Gasparino breaks the spell of corporate ‘wokeness’ by exposing the rot of left-wing agitprop that prevails in boardrooms across the nation. Playing the victim has become an act of aggression to coerce business leaders into supporting the agenda of extreme progressivism—sacrificing returns to shareholders along the way. Innovation and meritocracy, efficiency and effectiveness, must regain their primacy if corporate America is to reaffirm the qualities that encourage hard work and achievement."—Judy Shelton, senior fellow, Independent Institute

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

What is prison time even supposed to accomplish? These are the questions that propel The Parole Room forward as it builds toward Johnnie’s 20th parole hearing—after 19 rejections.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Richard Hanania has come out of nowhere to become one of the best-known writers in the nation in the last few years. In this book, he directs his attention to the culture war that has driven society apart and presents a stunning new theory about what is going on. In a nation nearly evenly split between conservatives and liberals, the left dominates nearly all major institutions, including universities, the government, and corporate America. Hanania argues that this is as much a legal requirement as it is an issue of one side triumphing in the marketplace of ideas.

America is great for a reason. Built on principles of freedom, rugged individualism, and self-sufficiency, no country has ever accumulated more power and wealth, abused it less, or used that power more to advance the human condition. And yet, as America blossomed, left-wing radicalism and resentment festered beneath the surface, threatening to undermine democracy in the form of social justice warriors, the deep state, and compromised institutions like academia and the mainstream media.

In 1995, James W. Loewen penned the classic work of criticism Lies My Teacher Told Me, a left-leaning corrective that addressed much of what was sanitized and omitted from American history books. But in the decades that followed, false leftist narratives—as wrong as those they supplanted—have come to dominate American academia and education. Now, in the same spirit but updated for 2024, Wilfred Reilly demolishes the scholastic myths propagated by the left, uncovers fresh angles on “established” events, and turns what we think we know about history upside down.

Now, he picks up where he left off: to hold responsible the true malefactors steering our country down the wrong path. Insightful and hard-hitting as ever, Levin proves that since its establishment, the Democrat Party has set out to rewrite history and destroy the foundation of freedom in America.

In 2009, Mark R. Levin galvanized conservatives with his unforgettable manifesto Liberty and Tyranny, by providing a philosophical, historical, and practical framework for halting the liberal assault on Constitution-based values. That book was about standing at the precipice of progressivism’s threat to our freedom, and now, over a decade later, we’re fully over that precipice and paying the price. In American Marxism, Levin explains how the core elements of Marxist ideology are now pervasive in American society and culture.

For all of neuroscience's advances, we've made little progress on its biggest question: How do simple cells in the brain create intelligence? Jeff Hawkins and his team discovered that the brain uses map-like structures to build a model of the world - not just one model, but hundreds of thousands of models of everything we know. This discovery allows Hawkins to answer important questions about how we perceive the world, why we have a sense of self, and the origin of high-level thought.

Not what I expected
Gasparino has a tendency to run phrases together when he is excited about a topic so, not the best.
I am not a “hater” and don’t follow boycotting trends so I bought this book wondering if this happens to a lot of companies. I had only heard about Budweiser.
Only an hour or so into it, the book stopped giving facts and got political. You know that saying “you are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.“? Well…this book is clearly the author’s opinion. The book may have facts but I didn’t get that far. He lost all credibility when he started repeating partisan talking points long since debunked. Too bad he didn’t skip the political rhetoric because I couldn’t get past it and moved it to my rubbish folder with well over 7 hours left.
I’ve seen Gasparino on TV and he seems like a smart, funny guy. I expected more from this book and that is why I ranked it as I did.
