About this listen

Sid Hansen is a remorseless, death-dealing super-soldier - and he works at Gamestop.

That’s right. Kill Team One now has a job in a videogame retail store filled with cranky customers, shoplifters, crying kids, and people who just haven't figured out how to use Steam yet. Spoiler Alert: It’s a situation that can't possibly end well. And it’s about to get a whole lot worse....

A global organization of radical Islamists have tracked Sid all the way from the mountains of Afghanistan, where he may or may not have been kinda sorta responsible for just some itty bitty little crimes against humanity. Hell-bent on revenge, they’ve planned the largest martyrdom operation ever conducted. Buildings will crumble. The streets will run red with blood. Their jihad will not end until they have accomplished their sole objective - to kill Kill Team One.

But their enemy is a godless murder machine capable of violence even these barbarians can't imagine, so he's going to paint a very clear picture for them....

Sid really is a one man Kill Team

I listened to Rated R, and was stunned at the pure perfection that Leon had managed to carve in tribute to the ultra violent R-rated movies of the 70's and 80's. He had packed in tons of violence, brutality, conspiracy, and cover-ups. Here he amps up the senseless violence like he's trying to make a point, probably a knife point, about . . . um . . . something. Hell, he amps up everything in this novel. As great as book one was, book two just runs over book one repeatedly before double tapping the brain just for kicks. I don't know if Leon understands the term escalation, but he sure knows how to apply it to a story.

The book is witty, violent, and so full of action I accidentally punched myself while listening. The characters, including Sid, are more fleshed out and detailed, and show some actual signs of growth. Oddly enough, I also found myself bursting into fits of laughter in various spots, as if the action wasn't enough Leon decided to toss in some serious humor too. He's so sinister.

Buzz Blackburn slashes and burns the narration of this book like he is a member of Kill Team Nine, a Special Ops Agent, whose voice is like the weirding module in Dune, the movie. His words can kill, and man he murders this book! He makes it so visceral that you can hear the body parts ripping off, and brains splattering with every grevious headwound. He is a word sniper, firing intense narration directly into your eardrums from a thousand yards away. I really enjoyed listening to him. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. Getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Back to back

I listened to the first in the serious and this one back to back and they are perfect, shut your brain off, mindless entertainment. It’s a shame the others in the series weren’t made into audiobooks because i would have purchased all of them right now. I have a feeling others would have done the same. It’s not Shakespeare and doesn’t pretend to be.. if you go into this book with the same expectations of watching a humerous action B movie then you will
Be throughly entertained.

fantastic

imagine if Rambo, Die Hard and lethal weapon had a child on steroids with a dry sense of humour.

narrator was fantastic and could probably get a job doing 80's movie voice over work, story continues from Rated R and is just as funny.
