About this listen

How do the really exceptional CEOs get more done in less time than everyone else? What is their technique for getting their work done, while still having the time to spend pursuing hobbies and spending quality time with their friends and family? The truth is that great and lazy CEOs know a secret when it comes to time management. Rather than spending a little time on a lot of things, the best CEOs spend most of their time eliminating the single biggest constraint to the growth of their business. They spend a lot of time diagnosing this constraint before taking action. This process is similar to looking for the kink in a garden hose so you can get the flow going again. There is no use trying to unkink the hose until you find the actual problem. Depending on the nature of the constraint, they engage in fixing the kink in the hose using one of five different roles - the Learner, Architect, Coach, Engineer or Player, that together form the archetype for great leadership. These are all high leverage roles that create a permanent improvement in the business. This insight isn't just some theory either; it's derived directly from working with thousands of CEOs running high growth companies. The trick to being great and lazy, is to only work at the point of constraint and avoid all work that doesn't increase organizational capacity. Lazy CEOs have a series of well-developed tools to properly avoid this non-value work. "I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it." - Bill Gates. So, do you want to keep working hard? Or would you rather get busy being lazy?

Top 3 favorite books of all time

This book is amazing! I have read through hundreds of business books over the past 10 years and this is in my top 3. It has excellent strategic AND tactical advice teaching how to win at the game of being a CEO. Just weeks after reading it my company and life have already seen strong improvements.

I think every CEO should read this book at least 5 times.

I can do better at being lazier

This book really solidified my belief in how to delegate. Calculating profit turnover will now be apart of my business. Key points that have change the way I help my employees to take ownership in their assigned projects. I can apply many of these points in my business. I definitely will listen to this book again@. Good job Jim.

Not so lazy, huh!

Incredible! Indeed the Title is “misleading”. As it turned out, the supposedly lazy CEO isn’t that lazy, rather he focuses on 2 important aspects: focus and leverage!

If you can only read one book.. .

This book was incredible!! From an early entrepreneur's perspective, all the way up to running a billion dollar firm, this book is my recommendation! If you can only choose to read one book in your career, the 5 hats are crucial, thorough, yet simple enough to get through in a quick 9 chapter book, I can't encourage you enough this is the one. Took me only a few days in traffic to finish this one I'm ordering the paper book to write all over and highlight, and this will become my manual 🥰

Despite not liking the word lazy, this is a great book

I was reluctant to try this book, but I am trying to consume every book on leader ship that I can. As someone running a company who also has ADHD, serving those with ADHD, I am particularly sensitive to the word lazy. I am glad that I was able to look beyond that and give this book a chance. It’s packed full of great lessons and strategies.
