About this listen

Growing Yourself Back Up is John Lee's book that thousands of therapists recommend to their clients every year. This lecture will help the listener recognize, prevent, and diffuse regression in ourselves and others. He teaches, for example, that adults cannot be abandoned, they can only be left; if we're feeling abandoned we're regressing. He also reminds us that no matter how overwhelmed we are, adults always have options; if we believe we don't, we're in a regression.

Growing Yourself Back Up will show you how to:

  • Develop strong emotional boundaries and convey them to others
  • Learn the detour method that reverses regression
  • Confront without regressing
  • Communicate with the authority figures who push your buttons
  • Minimize regression at family functions

Lee offers hope - as well as practical strategies that work - for conquering those childlike feelings of powerlessness that are almost always rooted in regression.

Very disappointed

This was given as an option instead of purchasing the book. This is not the book. And his use of humor in this presentation makes me not want to get the book. Joking about suicide? Men are from Uranus? Very hard to listen to…I feel like I wasted a credit.

The truth about the human condition

Loved the humor aspect of it. Really put me at ease and kept me from regressing.

Not the book

This is a 1 hour seminar that covers bullet points from the book with mostly meandering to the points by the author. Some interesting ideas that could be summed up in a 20 minute TED talk, not worthy of the price paid for an audio book.

This isn’t an audiobook for the book

What the audible audiobook is, is a 1 hour 20 minute recording of a conference in Chicago. Not the book. If you are looking for the actual audiobook, this is not it.
