This is the "so-called" reason the government won't reveal all they know about UFOs. The panic from this broadcast was significant. Although Orson Welles, Mercury Theatre and the Columbia Broadcasting System couldn't "soap the windows" of their listeners the night before Halloween back in 1938, they could annihilate the world for them. And that's exactly what they did with this radio adaptation of H.G. Wells's famous novel, War of the Worlds.

Story
The most influential work of the entire Spanish literary canon and a founding work of modern Western literature, Don Quixote is also one of the greatest works ever written. Hugely entertaining but also moving at times, this episodic novel is built on the fantasy life of one Alonso Quixano, who lives with his niece and housekeeper in La Mancha. Quixano, obsessed by tales of knight errantry, renames himself ‘Don Quixote’ and with his faithful servant Sancho Panza, goes on a series of quests.

Unfortunate
The stories are pretty nice, but as this was my first exposure to them I had difficulty staying engaged. Very often the narrator would sound bored, or there'd be distracting background sounds, whether intentional or not. One sound in particular is like a compact disk player's whirring and twittering. This certainly removes the listener from any immersion into the story.

classic stories and good readers.
4 great classics by hg wells which are beyond me to review. The readers are all I can speak to.
the island of doctor Moreau: no complaints beyond a couple mispronunciations.
the invisible man: decent reading, but with horribly cheesy sound effects thrown in on occasion.
war of the worlds: great reading, maybe a bit slow for me, but that's just preference.
the time machine: perfect. can't say more than that.

Stories are as good as ever!
H. G. Wells wrote such marvelous stories - whether this audio book or in any other form, I highly recommend them.

Timeless great stories
Dr. Moreau's narrating aside, this is a wonderful collection of essential Wells. I believe it is George Eistice who really needs a lesson in commas. Suffer through it. The story, and the others with great narration, are well worth the distraction.

Bad Narrator
Alan Munro has a terrible speaking cadence. I skipped the first two books because it was so distracting.
But I am a huge fan of Peter Bachelor. And the stories were awesome by the way.

THE TIME MACHINE
This was the first book I remember reading way back in grade school; serious science fiction, not Dick and Jane. It still is my favorite in so many ways. Calling him "THE TIME TRAVELER". Genius! His description of duration as a physical thing, one we are just beginning at sub-atomic levels to understand. Genius! He was truly visionary; far, far ahead of his time.

Some parts have a strange glitch in recording
Always fun books. The performance was excellent. There is a strange robot like glitchy sound on some of the recording, All of the first book is ruined by this.

Loved the Stories and Collection
The stories are classics and they are not the issue. The first narrator had an odd rhythm to his speech. Lots of pauses at weird moments and his inflection seemed off at times. For me it hindered my enjoyment and absorption of the books.
