Dragons with assault cannons? How is that fair?

I saved Highspire and the academy from the dissolution of our world. Seventeen-thousand students survived, and I want to keep it that way. The ship is breaking down. Life support needs repairs, and we have almost no food. We need money badly. That means scavenging tech that we can sell to the same people who blew up our planet.

Fortunately I'm the best Relic Hunter in the business...though to be fair all the rest died when my world tumbled into the sun.

There are six other Great Ships out there, and who knows what we'll find inside? I'm sure it will be fine. What could possibly go wrong?

Hatchling carried on the legacy!

Chris Fix doesn't disappoint in this next book for the Magitech legacy story. Wr get key characters from Magitech Chronicles appearing, appropriately, as he continues this amazing story. It will not disappoint and if you haven't yet, go back and read the Magitech Chronicles!

Couldn't get past one-dimensional motivators.

First off, LOVE the series and Magitech Universe as a whole. The world-building and characters are top notch. Best sci-fi/fantasy blend universe in my opinion.

But, I just can't. I CAN'T get past the childish, one-dimensional motivators that move the plot and characters forward. They are never expanded upon, questioned, or rarely if ever, make actual real-world sense.

*Light spoilers below, you've been warned!*
The WHOLE motivation for the first and second book is to keep a treaty with someone they suspect backstabbed them. And when the evidence gets overwhelmingly clear, they STILL treat the treaty like it must be followed. This drives the WHOLE plot of the second book, by the way. No group or nation in their right minds would act so meek as the way this one did. Completely idiotic. One-dimensional. You can't find a nation that behaves like that today. Pouring salt on the wound, this whole motivator is used to spurn the MC onto his quest where he is constantly under threat of breaking the treaty-promise.
I could get past this motivator oversight if it was the only one, but it isn't. Motivators that push the plot forward rise and fall on a whim. The main character has no ego the whole book and makes asinine decisions; being pushed around by the powers that be until he doesn't. After he stands up for himself however, he goes back to his no-ego self until the plot demands otherwise.

These pitfalls are a shame because I love so much of this story, and the broader universe. The characters, their chemistry, the worlds, the Gods, the tech... are (mostly) SOOOO GOOD, but I can't get past the fact that no-one has a good REASON to do what they do.
Not. One. Character.
The reasons are not there or when they are, remain completely one-dimensional and totally unrelatable.

If you can get past that, awesome. You'll find an amazing world and seemingly never-ending story. However, I can't. Returned. I'm waiting until they make the 65 hour version of this series for 1 credit.

P.S. of the many science "fantasies" that occur in this book, the planet bugged me the most. A planet isn't going to freaking split in two because it's getting close to the sun... just no... it'd burn first.

unbelievably good

I love this man's books. Somehow they keep getting better. this story is a great sci-fi fantasy novel with enough of the first series to delight any return reader or listener. I'm on my second listen as I write this

More fun in the Magitech world!

I really enjoy Chris' playful and energetic storytelling. The recording performance really brings life to the words as well.
