About this listen

He stole her childhood. Now she wants it back.

Mara Sitwell was only 11 when she went missing. Nineteen years later, she’s been found wandering through remote woodland, alone and confused. She says she’s been kept in an underground cell for all these years - but refuses to reveal anything about the man who snatched her. What does she have to hide? And who’s she protecting? Her brother-in-law, Damian, certainly doubts she’s telling the whole truth and fears she might even be a danger to his young children, especially when his wife insists on moving Mara into their home. To save his family, Damian will have to prove what really happened to Mara all those years ago. But the truth is never easy to uncover when it’s been buried so deep....

Unusual story

when the story ended, I realized I did not have answers to a lot of the questions. The character development was very weak.

Weak plot line

It was interesting at first but then it became confusing. I had hope that it would come to a plot twist, and it almost did but it was a weak one. The book was free so no loss but i wouldn’t pay for it.

Great story but terrible narration

I enjoyed this story. It has twists and was compelling. I wanted to know what was going to happen next and kept listening continuously. However, I hate to be a mean person but the male narrator’s voice was like fingernails scraping a chalkboard to me. I don’t know if that was his natural voice or if he was trying too hard. If it wasn’t his natural voice I would recommend trying to sound more natural. It seemed like he spoke in an exaggerated manner that was annoyingly drawn out at the end of each sentence.

Gripping

I listened to this book in less that 3 days!
It was very good…. However, it ends with not knowing which story is true… Damien’s or Mara’s!!!
Still held my attention!!!!

The story was captivating.

The story grabbed my attention almost immediately. However, the narrator for the book was all wrong in my opinion. He always sounded overly excited in the face of what should have been devastating news, in fact, no matter what he always sounded excited. And he was not great at doing other voices... it was so annoying.

Now, as far as the story goes, it seemed a little like a first book. The author often contradicted themself or answered a question before it was asked and then the question was asked. It was a little parochial. But, please, form your own opinion. I did enjoy the story and was surprised by the ending.

Great story but lame ending

Great story but the ending was lacking to say the least. Lots of stuff left answered.

Question left hanging

This book was pretty good as it was starting out, things were making sense and there was good tension and good character development. About 1/3 of the way through there was a pivotal scene in the book that never ends up getting explained, around a sandwich. It really needed to be explained for the rest of the story to be make sense one way or the other. But since it is left unresolved, it leaves the reader not knowing who was culpable in this particular act which needed to be disclosed for the ending to both make sense and be a satisfying ending.

The spin of the story was interesting.

I did not like the voice of Damian at all. He forced the emotion and did not succeed with the female’s dialog.
