Publisher's summary

No matter where she looks, Jasmine Molina's life is hard: her mother passed away, her brother is fighting overseas, and all she has left in the world is a drunken gambling addict for a father, a man who steals her hard-earned tips every time there's a "sure thing" at the track. Behind in her tuition payments and the utility bills, the last thing Jasmine needs is a spoiled-brat rich kid making her life miserable.

Gage Kingsley and his gang of snotty fraternity brothers have painted a target on Jasmine's back, and they take special delight in picking on her daily. But when they show up at her house in the middle of the night to collect an overdue loan from her father, Gage and Jasmine's worlds truly collide.

There's only one way out...accept Gage's offer of marriage, or watch her father die.

Story with much more potential

Any additional comments?

I listened to the audio book of HITCHED TO THE HEIR. While I loved how the narrator brought Jasmine and Gage to live. Loved their voices, the intonation – everything. But outside of the dialogue…? I found the narration exhausting at least. There was this terrible up and down in her voice like she was simply rattling it off to be over and done with it. I found myself constantly rolling my eyes – like I said, it was a bit exhausting.

The plot intrigued my from the very beginning, because I absolutely love a good blackmail story. But somehow the execution fell a bit too short, the book over too soon. Gage was the type of bad boy your momma warned you about. A hot, domineering, take-no-bullsxxx alpha male. He really did bully poor Jasmine a lot, even if it was only something childish like throwing paper balls at her.
Then he turns out to be her father’s bookie – which was hardly believable after witnessing his behavior in college. Somehow these two personalities did not mix. And then he blackmails HER into marrying him because of HER FATHER’S debt…? Seemed hardly fair to me, especially because this action seemed kind of drastic for such a comparably small amount of money that was owed.

After that, everything even seemed more rushed, but then came the epilogue, which I really adored.

That being said, I enjoyed the story, but it had so much more potential.

Hitched to the Heir

This was a cute rags to riches story. And Gage seems to be able to talk her into almost anything. The mother in law is the typical nightmare. But all things seem to work out! Fun listen.

Jasmine and Cage

This is my first book by Ella Slade and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hopefully more of her work will be on Audible. The characters were likeable. Meghan Kelly did a very good job with the narration. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Cute but Unrealistic

Ella Slade is a new author to me. Her story was cute, but unrealistic. It was a very nice listen and the narrator did a fantastic job. I found this story a fun diversion from life. The premise for the story is somewhat "Cinderella" and insta-love. There were some unexpected twists in this book which I enjoyed. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher, and/or narrator. My review for 4 stars overall is because I found the story unrealistic, not because it wasn't enjoyable.

Unusual contemporary romance

The plot seemed interesting but some of the details made it quite Unbelievable. There seem to be little chemistry between Jasmine and Cage. She goes from disliking him to accepting to marry him because of a $3,000 debt! In my opinion, getting married does not really translate into being "responsible". There were a series of odd and unusual behavior. People don't usually get blackmailed by someone they dislike and seal the deal immediately by sleeping with them!

The narration was good and brought the story to life. Although, there was little emotion in the voices portrayed.

The conclusion was ok. I don't think the flow of events made sense to me but perhaps some people might think it does.

Quick listen

This short, new adult book was an interesting listen. The book started with Jasmine and Gage in college, at odds with each other. With some unfortunate circumstances, Jasmine and Gage meet again and their relationship really begins. Their love hate relationship is entertaining. There is a lot of banter between the two. We learn a lot about Gage and why he acts the way he does, and what he is really like. Jasmine I found to be pretty transparent, she is who she is. There are a lot of family interactions, Gage's mother is a total witch, Jasmine's dad a gambling addict and her twin brother, Nick, the military man who is very chivalrous. The story was fast paced, their relationship moving quickly, the scenes steamy and the happily ever after predictable. I found it to be an enjoyable read.

Meghan Kelly brought this book to life for me. She is the perfect voice for new adult books, and was able to keep me listening and focused on the story.

Steamy!

Where does Hitched to the Heir rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'd say this book ranks somewhere in the middle of everything I've read. I enjoyed listening to it, but would have liked to see a little more romance.

What did you like best about this story?

There wasn't anything really radical in this story that stands out above any other thing except maybe the fact that the heroine demands respect no matter what position she's put into. She has a strong sense of self.

Which character – as performed by Meghan Kelly – was your favorite?

Meghan Kelly did a great job narrating the entire book. She expressed emotion very well, and made it very clear which character was speaking.

Any additional comments?

This was a quick, sexy romp. The female lead is strong, and the male lead is someone you learn to love. The sex scenes were definitely steamy, I just wish there had been a little more romance between the characters. They go from hate to love so abruptly that I was left feeling just a bit cheated. It was still a good book though, and worth the listen! ~I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.~
