About this listen

A town in the thrall of evil. A summons that can't be ignored. The SCU returns in a nail-biting novel from New York Times bestselling author Kay Hooper.

The Chosen have been warned. Powerful psychics across the globe have gotten the same eerie and insistent message: Go to Prosperity. Because in this small North Carolina mountain town, madness has taken hold...

Trapped in a nightmare they can't escape, the residents of Prosperity are killing one another, waking up with no memory of the monstrous acts they've committed - or the reasons why. Chief Deputy Katie Cole knows that whatever evil is afoot is beyond her expertise, and beyond the understanding of Sheriff Jackson Archer. They need help.

The Special Crimes Unit is called in for its specific brand of investigation, to aid the Chosen as well as the once-peaceful mountain town. It will take all the agents' training, all their experience, and every extra sense they can call on to get to the bottom of things in Prosperity. And as a sinister pattern begins to emerge, even the most experienced and hardened SCU agents must brace themselves for a flood of darkness unlike any the world has ever seen...

Too many characters

I usually like this series and this narrator, but they didn’t seem well matched this time.
The story ended abruptly and very unsatisfactorily - it was sort of like “ and then the handsome prince came along, saved the princess and the fairy godmother was happy “

I was heading toward 5 stars ...

I was listening, not aware of the time countdown on the book. There was a dramatic scene and suddenly I was listening to the closing comments. I was enjoying the story and journey a lot. The end felt like an end to a middle of a chapter with much to go. I even backed up some to see the book had skipped chapters.

Kay Hooper is a great storyteller. This was a incomplete story.

Good story ended way too quickly.

Good story but the end of the book lacked details that felt necessary.
Very good performance. Felt like author wrapped it up without substance.

Great story and performance but ending lacking detail

This story involved 6 non SCU team members and their contribution each seemed to be glossed over at the end. Additionally the ending seem rushed with little detail when it should have been the climax of the story. This is not the norm with Kay Hooper and this is my first disappointment.

Left me wanting a weekly show!

Was like watching a crime show but you had to visualize it from the reader! I want more.

Another good one.

I loved this book. My only issue is that some of it felt rushed. Like the action scenes were brief. Not like battles in any of the other books.

Would have been better as a short story.

WARNING: Do not listen to while driving or operating heavy machinery.
Took weeks to get past the the first part. Excellent cure for insomnia with no sleeping pill aftereffect.
Takes till the very end of chapter 6, beginning chapter 7 for any story to find its' way. Roughly 3 hrs into the audio, if you can make it that far.
The ending chapters had a water downed story to it, which would have been better as a short story.
Did Kay really write this?
If book is dropped in the tub, over the boat while fishing, or otherwise soiled..no worries. Tis a good throw-a-way book

disappointed

A good buildup of the story and then suddenly a very lame and hurried ending.

Not Her Best

I've been a fan of the Bishop series for years and have loved it. Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. The characters weren't well developed. The plot felt quite thin. And, the ending didn't seem complete. This almost feels like 1.5 books were split into 2 books. I doubt I'll buy the next book in this series. I did enjoy learning what Hollis and Reese had been up to since the last book.
