Publisher's summary

Finding that desecrated body was only the beginning....

For Ashley and her three friends, it was supposed to be an adventure-filled weekend. A chance to get away from the hustle-and-bustle of city life and experience the peaceful tranquility of nature.

But when they ventured into those woods, their trip turned into a horror far beyond what they could have ever imagined.

Because these four friends have wandered into the territory of the violent, grotesque Webb family. A group of psychopaths who have a taste for human meat. And they are hungry!

Ashley and her friends must face this evil head on, and, worse, discover the shocking secret behind the family's existence....

In the vein of The Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Wrong Turn - Horror in the Woods will leave you exhausted and drained. A brutal, violent tale that hurtles along at break-neck pace - one that horror fans should not miss!

This was an extremely gory horror story. It was an interesting twist on some of the into the woods horror stories.

Cannibalistic

This book is gory and violence and not for the faint of heart and I enjoyed this. It is about 4 supposedly friends going hiking thru the woods to reach a camp and run into a crazy, cannibalistic deformed family and this are where the horror and truth come out. My only thought was with all that Craig had gone thru he should have died due to blood loss before his eyes were taken. I just bought author’s book The Demonic hope it is as good. Recommend to anyone who enjoys gory, violent horror with cannibalism. Read the book on kindle then given this free review copy audiobook at my request (better to listen to) and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you!!

Absolutely Gruesome.

Thrilling tale of survival. Thought it would be just another wrong turn type story. As always Hannibal Hills is amazing.

Extreme

This was a wild ride. The set up is something any horror fan will be familiar with, but it takes some turns and twists that give you something new to that setup. It is gruesome and gory, and sometimes made me uneasy with some of the images it would evoke, but it was a engaging and entertaining tale. The narration was great and I look forward to hearing more from Han Hills. Would definitely recommend this if you can handle some extreme content, as it is an enjoyable horror experience.

Surprisingly good folk horror slasher

I expected this to be gore core trash. Turns out, while there were a few scenes of pretty extreme gore, it’s a surprisingly good, well written folk horror slasher, with a touch of cosmic horror. If you like weird cannibal mutants empowered by freaky otherworldly entity, this one’s for you!

For me, this book is an ultra-violent YA

This is very much a story of two halves, the first half uses the familiar trope of teenagers lost in the woods and the nasty things they discover while they're trying to find the way out. The second half is something a little bit less familiar and has some surprising twists...
The story itself is quite slow moving, with the main characters spending quite a lot of time having feelings and shouting at each other what they should do next - once they finally decide on a course of action about halfway through the book, things start to speed up and get interesting.

By interesting, I mean deeply and graphically gory and violent. If that's your cup of tea, then this book is BRILLIANT! For me, I'm not a fan of gore for the sake of gore so I started to lose interest a bit but I know there was a time when this book would have rocked my world.
Despite all sorts of nasty things happening to characters during the course of this book: they never pass out. So you get to witness the horror that happens to them from their perspective, but there's no real reason that they can't pass out.
For me, this book is an ultra-violent YA, if such a thing exists... it feels like a teen slasher but with deeper levels of depravity than you're likely to get in any movie!

The sound quality was perfect and Han Hills, the narrator, does a good job of giving the different characters their own personalities with his voice. I found it odd that a male narrator was reading a book with a female main protagonist but he brings it together.

Audiobook was provided for review by the narrator.

good book

Nice and gory, with a good story and nice plot twists. unfortunately the author lost me at the end of the book when it turned into some fantasy sci-fi bullshit, but still worth the listen.

All the elements for a great horror story!

This book has all the elements of a great horror story: isolation, strong interactions between the main characters, a deranged and deformed family of antagonists, and something else even worse… If you add some very well devised plot twists you have a tale that will make you stay at the edge of your seat.

Even when this story is full of blood, gore and violence, and some of the scenes are beyond disturbing it all works perfectly well in this novel. This fact is complemented by the interactions between the characters and their reactions to what is happening around them. I love the fact that they feel organic with their personalities and the situations they are exposed to.

This novel is not for the faint of heart, and I am eager to suffer through this talented author’s next nightmare!
