About this listen

A dark and twisty psychological thriller from the number one ebook best-selling author of The Woman Next Door.

Her dream home will become her worst nightmare....

A strange encounter.

Neve comes across a troubled woman called Isabelle on Waterloo Bridge late one night. Isabelle forces a parcel into Neve's hands and jumps to her death in the icy Thames below.

An unexpected gift.

Two weeks later, as Neve's wreck of a life in London collapses, an unexpected lifeline falls into her lap - a charming cottage in Cornwall left to her by Isabelle, the woman on the bridge. The solution to all her problems.

A twisted secret.

But when Neve arrives, alone in the dark woods late one night, she finds a sinister-looking bungalow with bars across its windows. And her dream home quickly becomes her worst nightmare - a house hiding a twisted secret that will change her life forever....

Such a great book!

I liked the pace of this book. I also liked the prospective of both of the characters portrayed. Cass Green has developed as an author in my opinion.

Irritating protagonist

I was intrigued by this book. It was on a listing for creepy books for Halloween. Being festive, I've been watching horror films and reading spooky books. This one was neither spooky or creepy really. The story itself was different and pretty good, however I wish the author would have given Neve, the protagonist so redeeming qualities. It's difficult to read a book where you are surely supposed to be rooting for the main character but the whole time you roll your eyes in disgust. Neve is a woman in her early thirties, in a low paying dead end job, just got dumped by her boyfriend for cheating and is living unwelcome in her sisters flat with her disapproving husband and two children. So here's why I disliked Neve she cheats on her bf as soon as he is away with his band mate and acts surprised that he dumps her afterward. She moves in with her sister and can't afford a place of her own in London, she stays out late and makes messes doesn't clean them up doesn't help her sister and is becoming a wedge in their marriage. But the whole time it's like wow is she and you get the impression she feels a sense of entitlement through the whole book. Then miraculously and tragically she is bequeathed a cottage in the country from a woman she saw commit suicide. She then goes to see her 'gift' and just goes on about how horrid it is. Again sense of entitlement...it was so irritating my eyes hurt from rolling up in my head. The narrator adds to Neves being unlikeable. I also got annoyed with the British way of talking in this book it was 'a bit this' 'a bit that' and 'if I'm being honest'. This book had great potential but the author didn't quite bring it there. She spent 3/4 book on Neve and her crappy attitude and ties it up in a neat bow the last hour. I really could not stand Neve and she never 'grew up' in the book just became worse imo. Dis

The Sister...

Lisa Coleman & Helen Keeley narrated this work of art very skillfully. Cass Green did mind twirling twist with Neve, Issy, and simply all of the heart thumping charaters. It keep me going until the very end.. the only thing I did like was ...I guessed the ending however I still hung on like a Roller Coaster ride I ridden a thousand times...Cass you did the dam thing! ....I so loved it ...and to think ...I was afraid of the Cottage too...lol for real! ...I read it in daylight ..just to save myself the horror...I thought exist...that's how far gone Author Cass Green had me.I luv luv loved it!

Great writing good mystery

Enjoyed the book and the audible narration. This is the first book I have read by this author and although I did enjoy it very much I was a little dissapointed there was not more to it or the mystery. I did figure out what was to come and who the bad guys were fairly fast and fairly easily so that was dissapointing. It was a easy relaxing read after my usual horror and suspense novels. Did seem a little like a typical woman's book.

I thought it was very slow hard to get into until the let 8 chapters. The narrator did a good job.
