About this listen

Hunting for allies. A rescue mission that goes against the natural order. Time to delve deep.

Zeke and his friends have a final few obstacles standing in their way before they can try and find a way into the Hells. Everything to this point has been an effort to rescue their buddy, Balmur. One obstacle happens to be a mythical beast that might sooner eat than help them, but no big deal...right? Beyond that, all the group needs to do is find the hidden city of the High Elves and convince them to join their cause.

Searching and survival: If only it were that easy. Now, there is active opposition to their goals of saving not only this world from war’s influence but Earth as well.

Will a hungry beast be picking its teeth with their bones? Even if they survive long enough to search for Balmur, the best case scenario is the team diving into the Hells.

Amazing and Thrilling!

Extremely well written and amazing story. I am so excited for the next book. Im actually very sad its not written yet. But will be first in line for my fellow veterans book. I can't wait for zeek and his friends to continue on their captivating adventure.

Fun action adventure story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and the previous two books in the series. it is great adventure fiction. I read all three over the course of about two weeks. With that said I personally don't like the mechanics of explaining level ups. If I were reading on paper rather than listening I would probably skip those sections.

Also, if Christopher Johns is reading, why hasn't Zeke been fighting in animal form instead of just bringing on the aspect? maybe it was explained earlier but I didn't catch it. Good stories though.

The greatness continues

The adventure continues as Zeke and the crew make their final preparations to enter into the Hells and continue to get in War's way. I must say that I enjoyed all these books so much that I consumed all 3 books in less then a week. It is a continued adventure so the goals of the party are still the same from the first 2 books. In book 3 the group is still looking for a way into the hells and and to gain more levels to be able to survive there. The group think that finding a black dragon can help the cause, one way or the other. The group also goes to the High Elves capital and are not received very well as they meet up with an old foe causing problems for the group. Without to much stoilers, the group does find Balmur, their friend stuck in the Hells, but it is bittersweet as his time in the Hells has changed him a bit.

One of the greatest things about these books is how believable the characters are in a new world not their own. The details of how the characters are feeling home sick or how the stress of their situation is getting to them is realistic, even in a fantasy setting. Some of my favorite parts are the groups encounter with the High Elves and finally finding Balmur, which is so heartbreaking and so heart warming at the same time.

B.J. Harrison still does a passable job, but I feel that he can improve in some areas. I also am not a fan of how he changed May's voice in this book and the last; In the first book she spoke higher-than-thou but then softened up for Zeke, but in the later books Harrison makes her go back to the higher-than-thou all the time even when alone with Zeke. I guess that's a minor knit pick.

Get this one as well

It's a great series. The races are the most imaginative I've seen in gamelit. The adventures are original/not typical in terms of the places they go so its not some sort of super predictable storyline or rehash. The characters flawed choices do backfire on themselves if they aren't careful. It's good stuff. Buy it.

Axe Druid keeps getting better

This is another great book by Chris Johns After reading the first two I have been waiting for this one to finally release in Audiobook. As a fan of both Military books and Litrpg I love this series. Keep writing Marine! I am waiting for the next one.

Absolute Awesomeness

This was a perfect continuation to the story. it covered all the emotional ranges better then expected. The action kept my attention completely and I was looking forward to how each got stronger.

So much better at 1.15 speed

I haven't given the narrator good performance ratings starting at book 1, but found when listening to book 2 that running the at 1.15xspeed made the performance much better. I'm not sure if the author is improving on some of my criticisms about his writing or if my complaints were more related to the narration, but I listened to book 3 completely in 1.15 speed and it was better all around. If you didn't see my previous reviews, the narration problem is that the narrator is channeling a laidback surfer dude on valium. While the author still dips into pretentious prose and now poetry, those are less annoying when it's at a faster speed. I don't know what the deal with the narrator is, he has tons of book and while a lot of them look like either mom-porn romance novels or the equivalent teenage girl fantasy novels, he also has several big titles under his belt. I have to assume he is decent, but he doesn't show it in this series. I'll see if I can find a novel in Audible Plus by this narrator that I can checkout to see if this is his normal work.

Overall, I like the story and want to continue listening. I'll be getting book 4 and while I'm getting 15% less book time listening at higher speed, the story is interesting and I've bought into the characters and story.
