About this listen

N8-C, better known as Nate, has been Manhattan Hasbro Hospital's resident robot for more than 20 years. A prototype, humanoid in appearance, he was created to interact with people. While some staff accepted working alongside an anthropomorphic robot, Nate's very existence terrified most people, leaving the robot utilized for menial tasks and generally ignored. Until one of the hospital's physicians is found brutally murdered with Nate standing over the corpse, a blood-smeared utility bar clutched in his hand.

As designer and programmer of Nate's positronic brain, Lawrence Robertson is responsible for his creation's actions and arrested for the crime. Susan Calvin knows the Three Laws of Robotics make it impossible for Nate to harm a human being. But to prove both Nate's and Lawrence's innocence, she has to consider the possibility that someone somehow manipulated the laws to commit murder....

Featured Article: The Most Stellar Sci-Fi Authors of All Time

Science fiction is a genre as diverse as you can imagine. There are stories that take place in deep space, often depicting teams exploring or running away from something; stories that focus on life at the most cellular level, such as a pandemic tale; and stories that take place in times that feel similar to our own. Depicting themes of existentialism, philosophy, hubris, and personal and historical trauma, sci-fi has a cadre of topics and moods.

Good, fast paced story telling with references to current headlines artfully written into the narrative. I could definitely tell it was written from a woman's perspective ("the rippling muscles of his six-pack abdomen" sheesh), but still well done, with excellent diction and spectacular detail. A tad predictable, but I will still be back for books 2 and 3.

Not bad, though I thought it was the Original

Amazing book but very depressing! It's the slap in the face I know I needed!

Bittersweet

If you could sum up Isaac Asimov's I, Robot in three words, what would they be?

Medical robopsychomystery

What did you like best about this story?

I love medical mysteries and Asimov's robo-mysteries. This combines the two

What about Alma Cuervo’s performance did you like?

It's nice to have a narrator who can correctly pronounce the medical terminology. It's a little thing, but there have been so many that did not. She also does a good job differentiating between characters. She has a voice that's makes listening a pleasure

Any additional comments?

Great book, good plot, likable characters.

It's not Asimov,but I loved it

I have read all 3 books in this series, and I have a significantly different memory of what the third book involved. I was expecting logic and robots, and what I got was trite garbage. I'll have to reread my physical book to see if it was my memory that is skewed, or if they butchered a great story.

not as I remembered

If you are going to put Asimov's name on something, you had better be a top tier fiction writer. This is, at best, junk food. This is fan fiction I would expect to find on accident, not worth your time if you want something that makes you think.

I was expecting more.

It starts out fairly interesting. it quickly becomes overshadowed by the authors motives which are to preach their personal moral philosophy.

okay, if you can get past the author's didacticism

I thought this is actually Isaac Asimov’ book. 3 hours through the story and nothing but annoying details and “handsome perfect dude saves the girl’s life” stuff. The whole story can be summarized in 2 hours

Not worth it

This is...awful. The story is about a very, very, very clever person, it goes on and on about how clever they are - and then they proceed to do the absolute dumbest things you've ever heard/read in your life. Literally, things that are specifically in their "expertise," they can't rise to the lowest level of intelligence to accomplish and are constantly surprised by things that they should know. If you're an expert on reading people - which is expressed to us in great detail, many, many times - how is everyone constantly surprising you and eternally a mystery to you? If they had written this with a layman character with zero intelligence, I would have still been surprised by their stupidity. But that they made a point of having the main character be incredibly intelligent, then had them behave like a complete idiot, really went a long way in ruining this book.

Asimov was a very intelligent man, his writing was as well. I wasn't expecting HIS level of intelligence, but I thought maybe someone had carried on one of his concepts in an interesting way because of the good rating. I clearly did not research enough, and ended up wasting my money. I thought the idea of the story was interesting, but it's so slow and very little actually happens, even though there is a lot of running around. But the interesting concept was ruined and the writing is terrible and doesn't carry the story well; which wouldn't be as offensive, if they didn't have Isaac Asimov's name attached to it. This was very mis-leading and upsetting to discover AFTER I had already purchased the book. Here is the warning, if you like Asimov, this is not a good representation of his work (fan-fic or otherwise). Does it include some ideas based on Asimov's concepts? Yes, but that could be said about any story involving robots.

The names they use, the terms they use, the depictions of people's reactions...I have to see an eye doctor because of all the eye rolling. Gaze, sharp, chiseled, inured (this word is used about 100 times, I don't think the author knows exactly what it means?)...just some of the cringe terms often used.

Granted, comparing this to Asimov's works is likely unkind, but it has his name plastered, in large lettering, at the top of the book! This is not fair to readers and I wish I'd seen a review like the one I'm writing before buying it. This has nothing to do with Asimov's works, other than taking his ideas, scrambling them, and trying to beat them senseless. It doesn't carry on any of his great stories, it isn't even a great story - somewhat interesting concept, terrible execution. Not trying to attack the author, but associating this with Asimov is very mis-leading and upsetting.

This is fan-fic - nothing to do with Asimov
