Publisher's summary

Both our conscious and more deeply embedded fears act as saboteurs in our lives, influencing us to make "safe" choices and limiting our ability to live happy, fulfilling lives. But imagine if you could learn how to take control of your brain’s instinctive response to danger. In Life Unlocked, Harvard-trained psychiatrist Dr. Srinivasan Pillay draws from cutting-edge research in neuroscience to show you how to do just this: to move past fear and unlock the potential of your life.

fascinating look at the brain and emotions

An accessible and fascinating examination of how the brain processes fear and other emotions. Gave me lots to think about!

Cliched as it sounds, this book may change your life

As mentioned, it is one of those books that would change the way we understand our emotions and our life and their interplay.

Immensely helpful and surely worth a second reading to assimilate everything in it.

worth the read- Science evidence included

Personally, I'm a sucker for books with science evidence to back up theories.....
this is one of them... data, studies, experiments - all included so you know how the brain works and how fear works in the human brain and body.
I had to go back and focus and relisten to some parts because it's dense in information... still worth the read... lots of good info.. even if you already read other books on the topic
It lost a star for me because it was a bit hard to concentrate on at times & I would prefer a book broken into smaller chapters rather than one chapter 1 or 2 hours long... just easier to go back or find your place if you get lost... and sometimes I got lost (opps)..

Too technical at times

If I had to "read" this book, i would have never finished it. The narration was a bit dry at times and I found it hard to concentrate.

Overall great information. I will probably go back and listen to it again

Thin imo but worthy

Somewhat thing and repetitive, which broke my concentration, but there are some hidden gems and plenty of useful and practical information.

A must have if you want a better quality of life!

This book is a wealth of information on how to manage thoughts, feelings, and self. It provides tools and stories to help us understand how our brain works and how we can control it. I'm buying the hard copy and I am listening to this again!

Fascinating science in brain biology

I loved this book. I've already recommended this book to several people and shared my own personal insights gained with my family. While it certainly will help you address and understand why we hold ourselves back from all we can be, it also opens the door to compassion for others. Instead of judging others for making destructive choices, understanding the powerful biology that often hides the solutions behind the mental trigger of fear, I can offer empathy to those who simply don't realize how to not let fear rule their lives.

There is a lot of medical terminology, referencing parts of the brain, but the author simplifies as much as possible so you can keep your focus on the overall subject matter and the profound understanding we now have for how the brain reacts.
