About this listen

Phoenix Books brings together two of Braun's best mysteries in this first volume in the series of two-in-one editions, featuring:

The Cat Who Blew the Whistle: Jim Qwilleran and his feline sleuths investigate the disappearance of a wealthy railroad buff - and alleged multimillion-dollar embezzler - a case that becomes complicated by red herrings, a tragic train wreck, and murder in a railroad tavern.

The Cat Who Came to Breakfast: Qwilleran and his Siamese cats, Koko and Yum Yum, journey to a peaceful island paradise that is rapidly being developed into a luxurious resort, where a series of mysterious "accidents" has been occurring.

Not the best.

The Cat Who Came to Breakfast wasn't the best "Cat Who" book, and the narration was awful. Dick Van Patten may be a good actor, but he stinks as a narrator, God bless him. Between the Yankee accent and not changing his voice for different characters, I was glad for it to be over. Plus, he didn't capture Qwilleran's gruff exterior at all. Qwill is not cheerful or easygoing, but the narrator sounds like he's smiling the whole time!

Narrator could be better.

The narration of these selections is easy to understand but annoying. The cat and owl imitations are terrible. Why are the sequels reversed?

Koko and Yum Yum always offer Grand Adventure!

I have been reading Lilian Jackson Braun cat heavy Mysteries for more than 20 years. when I read one that I read 5 or 10 years ago, it is like encountering an old friend!

Narration Lacks Attraction

It’s a fairly good story; however the voice narration seriously lack’s attraction & find very disappointing. George Guidall does a lousy female & cat impression & found rather irritating. 😒 Dick Van Patten did a much better voice impression in those areas but overall lacked enthusiasm. Because of it I may not continue with the Lillian Braun series even though I love cats!😸 How disappointing!

George Guidall is missing.

Where is the voice of Jim Qwilleran? Has George Guidall retired? The stories just don't sound right without him.
