About this listen

Rizzoli & Isles are back! From New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen, this “shocking and fast-paced” (Karin Slaughter) thriller has Jane and Maura investigating a brutal murder with dire implications, and this time, with Jane’s intrepid mother, Angela, looking into a mystery of her own.

“Absolutely first rate—readers will be thrilled and delighted by this new Rizzoli & Isles outing!”—Shari Lapena, New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door

Mothers know best . . . But who will listen?

Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are newly plagued by what seems like a completely senseless murder. Sofia Suarez, a widow and nurse who was universally liked by her neighbors, lies bludgeoned to death in her own home. But anything can happen behind closed doors, and Sofia seemed to have plenty of secrets in her last days, making covert phone calls to traceless burner phones. When Jane finally makes a connection between Sofia and the victim of a hit-and-run from months earlier, the case only grows more blurry. What exactly was Sofia involved in? One thing is clear: The killer will do anything it takes to keep their secret safe.

Meanwhile, Angela Rizzoli hasn’t had a decent night’s sleep in all the years since her daughter became a homicide detective. Maybe the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree: Nothing in Angela’s neighborhood gets by her—not the gossip about a runaway teenager down the block and definitely not the strange neighbors who have just moved in across the street. Angela’s sure there’s no such thing as coincidence in her sleepy suburb. If only Jane would listen—instead she writes off Angela’s concerns as the result of an overactive imagination. But Angela’s convinced there’s a real wolf in her vicinity, and her cries might now fall on deaf ears.

With so much happening on the Sofia case, Jane and Maura already struggle to see the forest for the trees, but will they lose sight of something sinister happening much closer to home?

Critic reviews

“In the 13th audiobook of the Rizzoli and Isles mystery series, Tanya Eby performs with charm and intensity as Detective Jane Rizzoli, Dr. Maura Isles, and Jane's mother, Angela, resolve not one, but five cases in the Boston area. Eby employs gasps and shortened phrases as she becomes a young woman who is being chased by a stranger and then ends up the victim of a hit-and-run. Suspense builds in Eby's voice as Jane and Maura follow clues surrounding a murder that leads to two more murders and a kidnapping. Eby subtly slips into several New England accents as Angela searches for the reasons that long-standing neighbors seem unconcerned when their daughter goes missing and new neighbors are behaving peculiarly. A heartfelt performance filled with suspenseful twists and turns.”—AudioFile Magazine

“Suspenseful and clever—nobody is who they seem to be in this shocking and fast-paced mystery.”—New York Times and internationally bestselling author Karin Slaughter

“I loved Listen to Me. Only the super-talented Tess Gerritsen can meld multiple storylines so successfully while she keeps the twists coming, the pages turning, and the blood spray arterial.”—Lisa Scottoline, #1 bestselling author of What Happened to the Bennetts

Rizzoli and Isles And Angela

I really enjoyed this book with a couple different storylines. Angela, Jane's mother , is the neighborhood "watch lady" or busybody. Jane and Maura are involved in a couple of mysterious cases, too. A lot of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Tanya Eby was a great narrator.

Dragged in places

A little convoluted. I daydreamed through parts of it and like a soap opera, could pick up where I left off.

A better title….

would have been “Rizzolis’ mother Angie”.
It was an ok listen but not what I expected.

Scattered

And chaotic. I love Rizzoli and Isles. I was so excited for a new installment. I am sorry to say it is disappointing :(

Reader was not great

Story was great as usual but I almost didn’t listen past the first chapter. The reader was not very good.

Listen to Me

Outstanding! An excellently told tale, A story within a story. Gerritsen at her best. Perhaps my favorite Rizzoli and Isles.

Twist, turns, and switchbacks

I had to rewind occasionally to keep the characters in mind because there are many names and several mysteries to unwind. Angela Rizzoli is an interfering neighbor and her neighbors are lucky to have her. We get a better image of Jane's mother as a physical being as well as a resourceful sleuth. She solves several mysteries on her own. Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are there as well as Daniel and Gabriel. I missed the fact that Jane's mystery was primary and had to back track to pull it together. I will listen to this one again before the next one comes out. The overall mood is lighter than previous books but that is not to say that police work is less gruesome. Gerritsen probably had a bit of fun writing this 13th book of Rizzoli and Isles.
