Chief medical examiner Kay Scarpetta is the reluctant star witness in a sensational murder trial when she receives shocking news. The judge’s sister has been found dead. At first glance, it appears to be a home invasion, but then why was nothing stolen, and why is the garden strewn with dead plants and insects?

Livid not up to standards

This storyline left me wondering if it was finished. I did not enjoy this book.

The plot was unengaging

The plot, to me, was weak and unsubstantial with many characters never fully fleshed out — As if this was just a light snack to the author’s usual satisfying fare.

An Intriguing Story

I have always enjoyed the Kay Scarpetta series and this latest novel does not disappoint. It is an intricate and compelling story that will keep you mesmerized to the end. Patricia Cornwell is an amazing storyteller and January LaVoy is a great narrator.

Not my favorite Scarpetta novel

This novel contains very little in way of action and neatly ties everything up in the last hour. I enjoyed the characters, I didn’t care for the storyline.

Scarpetta series

She’s written better but I love the Scarpetta series and have read every one so it’s easy for me to get into. I wouldn’t suggest this as a first read or hers

Not a fan of the narration

A long time fan of Scarpetta, I look forward to these, but it was tough to get through. The narrator was annoying and her weak range made the many male character voices sound silly. The story was entertaining and I’m happy to see that none of the usual characters were killed off. After 20 years of them it I think she’s getting close to changing this, but I hope not.
