About this listen

Successful but suffocated by the demands of her corporate career, Shaw Daily walks out on it all. She returns to her grandparents’ rural property in Cooper’s Creek, North Carolina, with a plan to hide out and reboot her life to be simple and stress-free. But escapism eludes her when her attentions are captured by small-town beauty Kate Elkins.

Kate has spent almost her entire life in Cooper’s Creek. For Kate, the bonds of small-town life are a source of strength and comfort. When her aging mother weakens, Kate takes a leave from teaching to care for her. Romance is the last thing on her mind when she bumps into her unrequited teen crush Shaw Dailey just back from California. Long-buried feelings resurface for Kate, but all Shaw sees is a beautiful woman saddled with the responsibilities from which she is finally free.

Solid romance

A good story with a decent build up and enough complications to make it interesting. Decent characters and a good scenes. The narration is good, but the pauses, or lack thereof could be better. Still, worth the listen!

Sweet and above average for genre

Only took off a star for generation plot issue that the 32 yr old character's mom is described as elderly and frail. That is a stretch to believe cuz I'm 56 and my mom is 86 and still lives alone though she could be described as senior and somewhat medically fragile now. So how old could young Kate's mom be in this story?! And the language was sometimes a bit crude in love scenes despite the story as a whole being very well written and with above average skill and depth for this genre. Love the voice of narrator! Well done!!!

Great narration of this fine book

The Audible version of this finely crafted book made it more endearing. Bravo to Missouri Vaun and Brittni Pope. The cadence and Southern dialect made the words come to life.

Great story

Narration not so much. Part of the success of a book is the narration, I hope this book succeeds even if the narration is nothing to write home about. The bored voice the monotone voice of Brittni Pope is not something that you can get used to. Every book she reads sounds so boring and it takes time to get used to it...

Love the Book, The Audiobook Not So Much

So I read this book a while back and really enjoyed it. When the audiobook came out I do what I typically do and just download the books I enjoyed reading. I am not a fan of the narrator. This is really personal preference. If you are a fan of this narrator this will be a great listen for you. The book is great.

Descent Book but Narration Not So Much

The storyline was okay but there are some pieces of the book that seemed very unlikely to happen. I struggled to really get into it since the narration was lacking. The narration somewhat improves by the end of the book however, but I'm not sure if it was really better or if I had just gotten accustomed to it. Overall I think the book is better than average.
