About this listen

Eleanor Wheeler married into misery. Now widowed, marrying again is the only way to save her sister and herself from their brother's drunken temper. Mr. Bancroft offers her such an escape if she can gain his mother's approval at the family's house party.

Eleanor quickly discovers that obtaining Mrs. Bancroft's blessing is near impossible. A matter only complicated further when she stumbles across a fellow guest in the middle of the night. Despite fear of scandal, Eleanor cannot resist the Marquess' easy manner, which appeals to her heart in a way Mr. Bancroft never could.

However, losing Mr. Bancroft would be disastrous to her sister's future. As her past begins to catch up with her, Eleanor desperately holds the Marquess at arm's length in an attempt to preserve her plans. As the house party draws to a close, she must choose between a safe bet or following her heart.

I liked this story, characters fell into place in the storyline nicely. Just the nature of the story made me getting uptight during the progression of uncomfortable situations. The ending was good, I hoped for the outcome but of course it took awhile to get there. It would have been nice if Mr. Peterson and his eventual bride would have taken the fall for the night time scandalous rendezvous for which Mrs. Wellington & the Marquee took the hit for, then saving Mrs.
Wellington’s reputation since they too were meeting secretly but that was not written into the story. Oversight opportunity to bring more good guys & depth by the author I think,

Good in series

I was looking forward to listening to this audiobook because the storyline seemed like something I would really like; however, the narrator I just could not get past the narration. I started the book twice but never got past the third chapter.

Poor Narrator

I am enjoying the series and this story did not disappoint. The author does a great job of weaving all the characters together and storylines are captivating. The narrator does a great job too. On to the next!

I wanted a more realistic regency romance and this was it. Sweet and yes slow majority of the story takes place over the long period of a house party.

Enjoyable

The story was well crafted. The house guests and the plot had more turns and twists than a rollercoaster.

A rollercoaster ride

This story has a heroine to be pitied and applauded. Her basic character and courage win out overall, and true love is the prize. As chances are taken, misunderstandings complicate matters, and secrets come to light, the characters are shown for their true natures. Having learned from the past, our heroine seizes her desired future. The epilogue is merely the start of a separate story.

Although Mrs Wheeler sometimes frustrated me, I couldn't help falling in love with her! The narration is excellent and the author does an outstanding job of building the romantic suspense right up until the end. Well done Ms Stockton and Ms Sarah!

Very Good story. Excellent development. My favorite part was the FMC having a chance to say her mind before the end of the story!

Best of the series

I love Kasey's stories because they are captivating and unique. I do wish her characters had a relationship with God. It is an empty, shallow feeling when the do not reach out to God in distress or joy. It's so obviously missing that rewarding aspect.

Mary Sarah is phenomenal. If you overlook the comical way she says, "Chop-ter four...." then you are swept away with her pleasing tone, natural-sounding characters' voices, superb acting, and depth of emotion. I hate it when I have to switch to another narrator!
