About this listen

She gave me her blood, and my life changed forever. Anastasia. My sire. The only influential figure in my already-fragile life. She did this to me. She caused all the pain and suffering. There was a time I believed I owed her everything. After all, she gave me immortality and the never-ending thirst for the energy contained in the blood of my victims. But now vampires hunt me and the humans want to use me as their personal weapon. They believe I'm some kind of apotropaic figurine that can damn all Deamhan and force us back into hell where we belong. Me? I just want to live. I just want to be Maris. That way, the only one I can damn is myself.

Good Read

This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. This story follows Maris journey as an immortal Deamhan. It is an enjoyable read with in depth characters and descriptive world building. I really liked seeing how Maris and others adapt to the ever changing social changes through the generations. The narration was good however at times it was not clear, having a sort of echo sound to it. I look forward to more in this series and from this author.

Vampires with a unique premise.

Maris (The Brotherhood Files #1) by Isaiyan Morrison puts a new spin and an original premise to the classic vampire theme which I find fascinating. I’m also impressed with the world building; the Deamhan are somewhat similar to the vampires, but they were created by humans and are much more guarded and secretive with their existence. Hunted down by both vampires and humans,

Maris is the key to whether the Deamhan kind continues to exist or not. Deamhans, where did they come from? How are they different from Vampires? This is the story of Maris, a young woman who hold the fate of Deamhan and vampire alike and she doesn’t even know it.

This novel takes place between book 1 and book 2 of Deamhan Chronicles, I haven't read any of the other books in the Deamhan series but it didn't hamper my reading of this one. however I probably would have had a more in-depth knowledge of the characters if I had read others in the series. Isaiyan Morrison did her job well and I can say without a doubt that this in one of the most intriguing vampire stories I have read in a very long time.
