Publisher's summary

Is your leadership a competitive advantage, or is it costing you? How do you know? Are you developing your leadership effectiveness at the pace of change?

For most leaders today, complexity is outpacing their personal and collective development. Most leaders are in over their heads, whether they know it or not. The most successful organizations over time are the best led. While this has always been true, today escalating global complexity puts leadership effectiveness at a premium. Mastering leadership involves developing the effectiveness of leaders - individually and collectively - and turning that leadership into a competitive advantage. This comprehensive road map for optimal leadership features: breakthrough research that connects increased leadership effectiveness with enhanced business performance; the first fully integrated Universal Model of Leadership; the five stages in the evolution of leadership - Egocentric, Reactive, Creative, Integral, and Unitive - along with the organizational structures and cultures that develop at each of these stages; six leadership practices for evolving your leadership capability at a faster pace; a map of your optimal path to greater leadership effectiveness; and case stories that facilitate pragmatic application of this Leadership Development System to your particular situation.

Mind-expanding, world-changing potential

Anderson and Adams don't pull any punches. They lay life out on the table and declare "here is the deep work to dive into to bring about life- (and world-) changing outcomes."

a lot of good stuff

However, a lot of focus on the consulting service the author sells. Plus the eneagram and ideas from eastern traditions like yin-yan were a no go. Would have preferred more meat and potatoes. Still, good stuff. I have the hard copy and tabbed it extensively.

Deep, wide-ranging, and comprehensive

This was a fabulous and entertaining tour-de-force summarizing decades of leadership research and how it overlaps with world class psychological models.

I wonder if I could have gotten as much from this book in my younger years, but if you find yourself engaging with the content then you may find yourself thoroughly enjoying the nuances, metaphors and stories - and especially the grand finale.

Well done to the authors, the narrator (whom I especially liked), and the entire team who pulled this masterpiece together.

Cerebral excellence in Leadership

This analysis is very sophisticated and excellent and is a top model of all the leadership books that I've read.
There is much repetition, however, like many other leadership books. Additionally, the narrative is written in a high level of sophistication (Freudian terms) so many readers may get lost during the delivery. As a leadership geek, I did enjoy the deep insight (into how integral leadership is above and beyond reactive leadership which is incongruent with"creative" leadership)... I would rate this book as a top-notch ideas book but with delivery meant only for the top intellectuals.
