A troubled past, a magical future, and a whole lot of adventure!

Raised in the slums and alleys of Helsin, Argo is tired of lurking. He is exhausted of living meal to meal and tries to elevate himself to a better life. The Rumi Guild he plans to depart, well, they decide the bury him instead of letting him escape their grip. Argo sees the trap coming, avoids the clutches of fate, and runs from everything he's ever known.

Don’t get too attached…

This is another great entry by Han Yang. It’s a rollercoaster don’t get attached to anything, or anyone in this book. The action is intense and the author does a great job creating a world I can’t wait to explore further

Expertise at work

Han Yang is not an inexperienced author, this is not someone’s first try. His work comes from years of figuring out what his readers want. With edges sharpened to a fine point, his stories cut through the drivel and produce storyline progression throughout the entire book. Royal Guard produces great series, but the Han Yang titles will always feel best to me.

I recommend this book

First and foremost, I recommend this story. I have enjoyed a number of stories by this author before. Climbing The Dragon Tower, My Girlfriend Is a Sorceress from Another World, Mayor of Mythos. All of which have audiobooks and now obviously showed us this one. I have kindle unlimited which I bring up because even if I'm picking up the audiobook sometimes, I check the afterward on the e-book to see if there's any information from the author when I really enjoyed the story. This book can stand on its own even though the author does plan to do additional books. It sounds to me like the author intends to do each book has its own adventures with the same hero and some reoccurring casts, but if you came in at book two or book 3 and just read that book, you'd be perfectly fine. As for the story itself in this first book we have Argo as the street tough going clean and getting out of the life. The story is of him essentially viewing himself as a villain all the while going from one event to another along his journey helping people. The world is brutal. He crosses a desert. He gets caught up in a “game” between gods. He saves his part of the world, and we move on to the next adventure. Overall, the writing from this author is solid and the storytelling is on point. This book is no exception. The narration team, as this is a dual narrated story, are a couple that I'm unfamiliar with. I think they hit it out of the park. All in all, I greatly enjoyed the story and in fact binge the whole thing in one day. Well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing the story to us the audible listeners.

An Arabian Nights Dark Fantasy Adventure

A fantasy adventure with a middle eastern setting is an interesting concept. The story flows well, the MC has great development, With a Dark Fantasy setting that's almost GrimDark if not for the humor and the MC's indifference to people he thinks are manipulating him, You can never go wrong with Han Yang.

Wonderful journey

We follow Argo on his journey through a very detailed world, about which we learn together with the main character.

With his background the main character does know little outside his home town. He meets interesting companions, suffers intrigues, schemes and a struggle to reach his destination.

The magic system is interesting and very harsh, both on resources and the things Argo must do to advance.

The narration is fantastic, I loved both performances.

Yes!

The Narration team did a good job. Han Yang did a great job on this book as he does with all other books.
