About this listen

Justan's dream of entering the Dremaldrian Battle Academy has been put on hold. His burgeoning magic powers have been deemed too dangerous to go untrained, and he has been sentenced to two years at the Mage School. How is he supposed to fit in among the mages and wizards, a physically weak group of people with whom he has never identified? Can he learn how to control his new powers without losing his identity as a warrior? Can he stick to his plans while the mother of the moonrats tries to destroy the school from within?

Fist, the ogre who was estranged from his own people, has now found a home next to a friendly human settlement while Deathclaw, the raptoid who was changed into humanoid form, has left his homeland in search of his destiny. They escaped the grasp of wizard Ewzad Vriil'l before, but his secret army grows, as does his influence in the kingdom. What will they do upon coming face to face with the Messenger of the Dark Prophet once again?

Messenger of the Dark Prophet is the second book in the Bowl of Souls Series.

Enjoyable from start to finish.

What did you like best about this story?

Assuming you liked the first book this will surely keep you entertained for another 15 hours of grand adventure.

I enjoyed the way Mr. Cooley continued to shift the perspective from which you viewed the story to best complete your understanding the of the situation and all of the underlying meaning/motivations that were involved.

What about James Foster’s performance did you like?

James Foster voice for the dwarf Lenny or Lemwee (I haven't read the book so i don't know how its written just that Justan refers to him as Lenny) was really enjoyable.

Any additional comments?

To be honest the first book didn't hold my attention at first, and it took me months to progress past the first hour of the series. Since then I have been devouring this series and i can't wait to see what the third book holds.

Exciting fantasy adventure!

Messenger of the Dark Prophet
The Bowl of Souls, Book 2
By: Trevor H. Cooley
Narrated by: James Foster
Love where this is taking me...a thrilling ride so far! Magic, wizard, ogres, orcs, strange creatures, golems, and elves all presented as if I could see, hear, and smell them. Suspense abounds along with many surprises, friendships, and deceit. Lots of unpredictable situations, great characters and amazing world building brings this fantasy adventure to life! The narration is absolutely wonderful!

Good lightweight read

Everything that happens to the main character is just too convenient. The characters have some development but could use more.

Joe Abercrombie's half a king and half a world is much more complex and the characters are more real. Good and evil is much more complicated in Abercrombie's books than in this series

Simple and sweet fantasy

Great for a family trip with kids, this is not game of thrones. Nothing new, but done very well and kid friendly! Biggest disappointment is the lack of squirrel!

Still sucked in.

I liked this book better than the first. The characters are more interesting and things are falling into place. Lots of action and good character development.

I am starting book 3 right away.

A Finely Edged Tale

Wow. Where to start... This book was, in 1 word, satisfying. This isn't a story that relies on sloppy or lazy techniques. I found everything to be fleshed out and well done. I feel like the only questions I have are the ones I'm *supposed* to have, and now I want the next books! We have, as to be expected, some new characters and some of the same. Justan is certainly growing and I'm really looking forward to learning his story. His progression of physical prowess and now magical is so desirable, I think, because we're starting at the beginning! I've seen so much fiction where it's just a gaping plot hole between characters being green / raw recruit or whatever and then suddenly they're all Aragorn, Legolas, or Gandalf! Justan started out with some huge character flaws, and that makes him real. Book 1, he was raw, and he was arrogant. He got better :)

I've really enjoyed the narration by James Foster. He's very talented and it has been a pleasure to listen to him. He distinguishes characters and maintains the voice of each character well. I will pay him the highest compliment I can think of - I am planning to purchase other works based largely on the fact that he is the narrator!

Thank you, Trevor Cooley, for the awesome reading time!

Five starts hands down

my next lord of the rings. I am going to listen to this series several times over you will find your self cheering for an ogre a dwarf an elf and a human wizard/warrior all at the same time. there are several twists in this story that i love they tell the story of several different characters from a very different point of view for each. an ogre who has a pet squirrel and becomes friends with a human family. don't want to spoil the series for you wont be disappointed.

Excellent Story

This book picked up where the first one left off and you start to see more of Justan's(sp?) tale, as well as a few other character's. The narrator did a good job giving each character their own voice.

The story overall was very interesting. I was surprised when the book ended. It felt like I had only just started listening to the story, but so much happened. I can't wait to listen to the next one.
