Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense Harlan Coben delivers his most shocking thriller yet, proving that a well-placed lie can help build a wonderful life—and a secret has the same explosive power to destroy it.

The Stranger appears out of nowhere, perhaps in a bar, or a parking lot, or at the grocery store. His identity is unknown. His motives are unclear. His information is undeniable. Then he whispers a few words in your ear and disappears, leaving you picking up the pieces of your shattered world.

Adam Price has a lot to lose: a comfortable marriage to a beautiful woman, two wonderful sons, and all the trappings of the American Dream: a big house, a good job, a seemingly perfect life.

Then he runs into the Stranger. When he learns a devastating secret about his wife, Corinne, he confronts her, and the mirage of perfection disappears as if it never existed at all. Soon Adam finds himself tangled in something far darker than even Corinne’s deception, and realizes that if he doesn’t make exactly the right moves, the conspiracy he’s stumbled into will not only ruin lives—it will end them.

Narrator ruined the book for me

I don't understand how anyone can like this narrator. He was very "off", very bland, no dramatic tones, no nothing. What a shame.

It was free so...

Well for a free book it was listenable! I really didn’t like the wife. I wish there could’ve been more closure with the wife. But it was a okay story!

Not Coben’s best

I usually enjoy listening reading Harlan Coben books. I am a big fan. Unfortunately this was not his best. I even listened to the last few chapters again thinking I’d missed something, but no. Some of the story line needed more development I thought.

Strange

I’m rating this book a while after I listened to it and I remember that it was a good book but I don’t remember what it was about until I read the summary. Some books are so good that it sticks in your head. This one has a lot of twists and totally turned in a direction I didn’t see would go. I enjoyed this book but it wasn’t memorable cj

Worth your time

Captivating story. I wasn't a real fan of the narrator. But as I got into the story I paid less attention to him. was it much better because I didn't pay for it? Perhaps. But overall very entertaining. Worth it.

Suburban Nightmare

Coben shows step by step how the typical middle-class American Dream can slowly spiral into nightmare.

Good

The story had me confused for awhile. I think it was supposed to be mysterious and ended up being confusing instead. I had to listen to a couple parts more than once in order to understand what was happening. I thought I had missed something important, but that wasn't the case. I still liked the story, it just took my a minute to grasp what was happening at times.
