About this listen
Trading in Texas heat for Maine's tangy salt air, Natalie Barnes risked it all to buy the Gray Whale Inn, a quaint bed and breakfast on Cranberry Island. She adores whipping up buttery muffins and other rich breakfast treats for her guests until Bernard Katz checks in. The overbearing land developer plans to build a resort next door where an endangered colony of black-chinned terns is nesting. Worried about the birds, the inevitable transformation of the sleepy fishing community, and her livelihood, Natalie takes a public stand against the project. But the town board sides with Katz. Just when it seems like things can't get any worse, Natalie finds Katz dead. Now the police and much of the town think she's guilty. Can Natalie track down the true killer before she's hauled off to jail...or becomes the next victim?

Jake and Ellie have been through a lot together, from home repair to homicide investigation. So when they decide to open a chocolate-themed bakery, they figure it'll be a piece of cake. With Ellie's old family recipes luring in customers, they expect to make plenty of dough this Fourth of July weekend. Having family home for the holiday only sweetens the deal for Jake - that is, until the ill wind of an early-season hurricane blows up her family's plans. Slow to start, but keeps you have guessing.
Slow to start but later Kent wondering who had "done it." was difficult to imagine every character. The narrator was good but had a slight lisp at times as if I she were wearing a retainer.

OK.........but the narrator
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The book was OK. It was a predictable but entertaining story. But the narrator was tough. She had a very difficult time, it sounded like it was a lot of work for her to speak clearly & her voice sounded too old for the character. I'd gauge the character was supposed to be in her 40's but the narrator sounded more like 60's. Her pronunciation was tough......she said stuff like "sh-oc-o-late chip cookies" which was actually said quite often throughout the book.........there was a lot of SH for the CH sound and it was as if she was adding syllables to words. Not my favorite narrator.

Hallmark mystery??
Halfway through this book I wish I would have started a drinking game. Every time the word “cookie” was mentioned. I thought there was something significant in the end about cookies, but no. So grab a bottle (or 2) of wine and take swig every time she mentions cookies and you will enjoy this audiobook.
