About this listen

Jerry never expected to be a ruler, but fate and evil sorcerers ripped him between dimensions to a land of magic and monsters. After fighting for his life and becoming the ruler of a chaos tower, Jerry and the people of Kasgrad are beset by enemies on all sides. Even as Jerry builds his defenses against existing powers, a new threat has infested the mountains south of Kasgrad. Strange and lethal creatures have begun to stalk the forest and the land itself is being corrupted. Jerry must solve the mystery of the mutamancer before the threat becomes too powerful to stop. Only careful planning, strong allies, and hard fighting can give them a chance for survival.

FYI for LitRPG and GameLit listeners: This book is only lightly crunchy with developing RPG elements as the story progresses. No harem.

Better and better

Our Chaos Tower Mage is not only fighting the God's of Light zealots still, but now an evil Mutamancer is trying to take over everything.
Our MC just can't get a break.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of humans that have been sucked off of the Earth and spit out on this medieval world, and most of them need to be saved.
I'm betting our mage and his mouthy chaos stone can get the job done.
This series is AWESOME! and definitely needs to be a trilogy, at the very least.
Lots of character building and action with new friends and enemies.
You won't want to stop listening.
I was bummed out when the book ended. And I can't wait for book 3.
If you like GameLit and LitRPG, you are going to love this book and series.

Uncertain plot armor

This book cracks jokes about plot armor, throws politics around, and scales back on the techniques used to climb the technological tower.

Another great story

More of the same from the first book and that’s a great thing. I really enjoyed what the author did with this book in continuing the story. System and world building continue at a reasonable pace. This is a great series and absolutely worth the credit. Narrators did an amazing job bringing the story out as well.

Better than the 1st book

The adventure continues, but better. The characters are more developed and the pace of story progression keeps you constantly entertained. I'm ready for book 3.

Fantastic follow up

I absolutely love this series. An adult MC, making adult decisions. Such a breath of fresh air.

No love story, not harem, only OP building and growing.

a befitting sequel

Right up front I enjoyed the story, and I will be continuing on to the sequel. That being said, a little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor, to say the least. For a sequel I expect the book to be everything that made the first one good and then some. For this sequel I think the author achieve that. I also try and make a distinction between quality of writing from the author, quality of performance from the narrators if it's an audio book, and my personal preferences. I'll never mark down a book just because it's not to my personal taste. The quality of the writing is solid all around. If I had one note it is that in a couple places, it feels like there could have been more connective tissue between scenes. This was a critique that I had for the first book and for the most part in this sequel it's not as big of an issue. In other words, present but substantially diminished. So far, all my favorite characters have made it into the sequel. I did notice in the blurb that it states that this is not a Harem story which is fine as far as I'm concerned but I would like there to be an element of romance somewhere in the story. My personal preference is that fiction tends to be real life amplified and as such violence is present, but I also think that romance needs to be present in order to make a more rounded story. In other words, it doesn't have to be the focus, but I do think it deserves to be there with regard to the context of the individual stories. Our main hero, as the story does progress from the point of view of other characters, is faced with a myriad of new threats endangering the fledgling Kingdom. There was a question in the beginning as to whether or not Jerry will bend knee to the king. The performance from the narration team was solid all around. This is dual narration, and the narrators are from the Actors Everywhere company. I did check out what else the author has to offer. While doing so I noticed that he has another story set in the tower Lords universe. The first book is called “Rise of The UnTed” and the second is called “Necronancy UnTed Book 2”. It appears that the character in that book is another abductee who unfortunately runs afoul of a necromancer and then has to fight his way free. Just something worth noting if you enjoyed this story and are looking for more from this universe. Finally, I'll just say thank you to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us the audible listeners and I can't wait to see what comes next.
