Publisher's summary

Cursing the familial obligation that sent her into the path of a blizzard, Jackie Frakes is deeply grateful for rescue on a snow-choked mountain road, even if her rescuer's reception is as cold as the landscape.

Leah Beck spends her days in a twilight of grief, actively avoiding all reminders of her former life as an artist whose work was exhibited nationwide. A houseguest for Thanksgiving is disruptive and painful, and the very last thing she wanted.

The snowbound weekend leaves them with an unforgettable, undeniable attraction that challenges both of their personal and professional commitments. Leah turns to her art with renewed inspiration while Jackie seizes control of her future. But will these new paths lead back to each other? Or will that stunning weekend together be their last?

special book

I just loved this: the writing style, the story, the narration.
I've never read a Karin Kallmaker book before, and listened only to Love by the numbers. I found that book a little boring to be honest. But not this!! It's about a lesbian artist who has lived through tragedy, and a straight architect with a long time boyfriend. Their paths cross unexpectedly, and then something happens which will set them both on a new path, forcing them to confront their fears and rethink their ideas about life and love.
Its the 90s, so things aren't as straightforward (pardon the pun) as nowadays; attitudes towards gay people not as tolerant. So there are significant obstacles for the heroines to overcome. Having been around then, I really could relate. Karin Kallmaker is just such a good writer: I was hooked all the way through. I can also see where a lot of lesfic authors got their inspiration from.
The first of two related short stories at the end of the main novel, is also one of the sexiest, most beautiful pieces of writing I have had the pleasure to read in a long time.
I believe Abby Craden is lined up to complete more Kallmaker books to be released early next year. I will be hitting the pre-order button the minute anything appears.

Just delicious all around- story and narration!

This is one of my favorite KK novels. Love Leah and Jackie and their story. So many things I can relate to. Such delicious love scenes. And the whole package juat wrapped up in a beautiful bow with Abby Craden narrating. One I'll listen to again and again... as a matter a fact- starting it now. Perfecting timing with it being Thanksgiving week and this a
story starts the same week.

Binge worthy book

I love how descriptive the author is in this. I can 'see' the scenes in my head. Wonderfully written characters you cheer for and hurt for. Took me back to a time when we had no rights, where biological families held all the cards and determined if/when you could see part of your life. And reminded me of how far we've come, and how far we still have to go. I loved this book and the add-ons at the end! My heart is happy.

Nothing better than this

This is a wining combination, a great book and a great narrator, the only thing I have to complain about is why give the 2 short stories connected to this book and not just write a sequel? I don’t have this great imagination to fill in the gaps...
but truly this is an excellent book.

Good and different

Because the original book was published in the 90s this had a very interesting take on a lot of different issues, yet so much hasn’t changed. It was much more than a romance novel. The narration was, as usual, spot on, and the mind of an artist was presented in a way that gave me a better understanding. Worth a listen and enjoyed the bonus stories.

Wonderful story

OMG loved this story! Abby Craden, as usual, narrates these stories straight to my soul. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the pain, as well as the joy, were so strong and palpable!

An Old Favorite

Years ago, this was one of the first lesbian books I ever read. I forgot how much I liked the story & as usual, Abby Craden was great.

Loved it!

I loved Painted Moon. A great story. Love the opening on a dark, snowy country road in a car ill equipped for the task. Love the setting and the main characters. This is one of the few books I hadn't read before listening to it. So glad, I loved the audio edition. The two short follow up stories really help the book. Abby Craden is the benchmark narrator against which all others are judged.
