About this listen

Imagine coming into the town pub with my crew, dirty and exhausted, only to walk right into my biggest regret. The twin sister of my lost best friend and the one who got away. I haven’t seen Violette Taylor in years but I haven’t forgotten her either.

I used to be Rowan to her. Now, I’m just King, the guy who broke her heart, but not for the reasons she thinks.

Violette is back in town for good, she's a single mom and a nurse in the burn unit I accidentally wind up in.

Can you call that fate? Maybe, if she wasn’t doing her best to stay far away from anyone who reminded her of her past, especially a career hotshot like me. But I know something she doesn’t; life rarely offers second chances. So, if this is my chance to finally make things right, I’m taking it.

Enjoyed Protect a bit more than Fight. Felt the story was more relatable with a relationship/family driven with history theme and less the typical new girl in town falls in love at first sight trope. Love the wildland firefighters theme and all details about the realities of life of firefighters and other rescue/medical personnel. Only critique really is why does Scottie from Book 1 now have a weird southern accent, when all of Fight she didn't.

Better than Fight!

Another great book in this firefighter series. Loved both of these so far and I cannnnnot wait for Zanders book. Narrators were awesome!

Just as good as the Fight!

I enjoyed this book a lot. I love Paisley Hope as an author. I loved the story so much. Love it when a man can love woman and a child so much, and the child is not his by blood. I love Samantha the female reader. The male reader was ok but just a little robotic.

Paisley Hope knocked this book out of the park!

“And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you rarely get second chances in life, so if this is the universe giving me one, I’m taking it.”

Duet Narration is 🔥

This was another fantastic book. I have to say the story of Rowan and Violet is very touching story. Through years of not knowing, loss, pain, and failed relationships this story kept my interest. Love how in the beginning of this book the author took the time and spoke of nurses. Absolutely loved this!

A Captivating Narration Experience

The narration was truly exceptional! I am absolutely enamored with Gideon Frost’s voice; both narrators breathed life into the characters.

While this is the second installment in the Sky Ridge Hotshot series, it can certainly be appreciated as a standalone. Nevertheless, I value the interconnectedness of the narratives.

This story is exquisitely crafted, brimming with **tension and angst**, **trauma and healing**, **heartbreak and second chances**, all seasoned with delightful spice. The dual timeline added a special touch, illustrating how the characters fell in love at 18 and later reunited in life.

Happy Listening

Paisley Hope delivers a deeply emotional and satisfyingly steamy second installment in the Sky Ridge Hotshots series with Protect—a second chance romance that hits all the right notes. It’s a story of heartbreak, healing, and undeniable chemistry that proves sometimes love just needs a second shot… and a little fire.

🖤 The Story
Rowan Kingsley—now going by “King”—has tried to bury the past, but when he walks into a local bar and locks eyes with Violette Taylor, the past punches back. Violette, a nurse and single mom, also happens to be the twin sister of King’s late best friend… and the girl he never forgot.

When an accident lands him in her burn unit, their worlds collide in a slow-burn reconnection full of angst, regret, and undeniable longing. Flashbacks to their younger years bring depth and heartbreak, while the present-day tension crackles with chemistry. This is a powerful story about second chances, trauma and trust, and rediscovering the love you thought you’d lost forever.

🎧 Narration Excellence
The audiobook experience elevates Protect to another level. Samantha Brentmoor is a standout—she brings Violette to life with so much nuance and emotion, capturing both her strength and vulnerability with absolute ease. She has a natural ability to become her character, making you feel every heartbreak and every moment of hope.

Jacob Morgan is a perfect match, bringing the rugged, emotionally complex King to life with that signature grit and tenderness he does so well. Together, their duet narration makes this a cinematic listening experience. If you haven’t heard Samantha Brentmoor before, you’re missing out—she’s simply that good.

What can I say about this book?? Rowan “King” Kingsley is a new book boyfriend on my list—tough, vulnerable, and determined to make things right with Violette, the one who got away. The emotional tension, regret, and slow-burn reconnection felt real and raw. Samantha Brentmoor and Gideon Frost brought these characters to life perfectly—Gideon’s performance especially made Rowan’s internal battle and heartfelt moments unforgettable. Second-Chance with a Swoonworthy Book Boyfriend

This was the most perfect second chance romance and the way Rowan and Violette found their way back to each other had me so invested in their story!! Rowan could not get anymore perfect! He was the sweetest golden retriever but make him dirty in the best way! And his instant connection to Violette's daughter, Hollie, just made him more lovable!! Rowan and Hollie had some of the cutest moments and I was a puddle for him! Violette was so strong and the confidence she had was incredible!! The connection and pull these two had with each other was so strong nothing was going to pull them apart!! They were protons and electrons!! This is a book I could read over and over again. Loved it that much!

AUDIO: This was a duet narration by Gideon Frost and Samantha Brentmoor. Holy Heck!!! Smoking hot!! And the range they both had in this one was so good! FANTASTIC!! A must listen!

Perfect Second Chance

I enjoyed the first book in this series. I was pretty confused about the difference in the writing until I realized they have different authors. This book has a much more juvenile feel about it and the male narrator didn't help matters. The spicy scenes were cringe inducing and I found myself skipping them entirely to avoid the 2nd hand embarrassment. It was a struggle not to dnf it entirely but I did finish it, so I guess that's something.
