About this listen

Twenty million dollars' worth of missing gems bring Carrie Singleton's long-lost and larcenous dad back into her life, and it's up to Carrie to clear his name.

A devoted dad is as precious as diamonds, but Carrie Singleton wouldn't know since her dad Jim's been on the lam most of her life. In an unusual family reunion, she finds Jim breaking into her cottage in the middle of the night. The fun really starts when he begs her to help him recover his half of a 20-million-dollar gem heist he pulled off with the local jeweler, Benton Parr. When she refuses, Jim takes off again.

Carrie finds her father again behind bars for the recent murder of Benton Parr. Who made the connection? Unbeknownst to her, Carrie's boyfriend, Dylan, an insurance investigator, has been searching for the gems. Determined to find the jewels herself, she starts examining every facet of Parr's life. She turns up a treasure trove of suspects, one of whom bashes her on the head as she's searching the victim's country cabin.

Retreating to the quiet confines of the library where she works, Carrie watches as Smoky Joe, the resident cat, paws at a hole in the wall. Is he after the library's ghost, Evelyn, or something shinier?

Excellent narrator, enjoyable series set in a library. Could use more time with the cat, less whining by the lead character.

Fun series

Another ans enjoyable cozy. In this book the characters father comes back into her life which made for an interesting cast of characters.

How their relationship progressed so quickly didn’t seem realistic but it is a cozy so fluff isn’t a bad thing.

Great series so far and looking forward to the next one.

Cute cozy

It is second book that I have listened. I love it. The story has elements of mystery, romance and supernatural. It is sweet and refreshing. The only one thing is bothering me - Smoky Joe. He will be one fat kitty if the characters wouldn't stop feeding him so often. I am looking forward to listen more stories.

Refreshing

The narrator does an awesome job but the MC had me actively rolling my eyes and annoyed throughout most of this story. I really enjoyed the first book in this series but this one made me nuts in several instances. I felt invested enough in the other characters to want to know how it worked out and hung in there for them, but the MC is frustratingly immature. In the first book, this didn’t seem to be a problem. I really hope the MC gets more likable in the next installment.

Great performance but MC needs some work

I am really enjoying this entire series. My only complaint is that Carrie leaves Smokey Joe in the car often. I know this is fiction, but even so, too many dogs and cats die yearly because of extreme heat or cold when being left in cars.

An excellent listen, especially on a gloomy day.
