Michele Foal
About this listen
NY Tim's Best-Selling Author Michele Foal returns from her long quest to find the answers to happiness, armed with an online college degree in psychology, she takes a confidently firm and indisputably stupid look into what makes people anxious, sad, happy, and depressed. This is the ultimate guide to self-help and will fix all of your problems, and by all she means none of them, probably. This is the only self-help guide that you will ever need in life. Especially if you are already dead. Ultimately, let's go hand in hand and explore what happiness used to mean to us and how we might refind it again, because it is out there somewhere, I guess.
*Disclaimer*
NY Tim is a random guy that Michele Foal knows that lives in NY; he has sold three copies of her previous work How to Fireproof Your Dog. It is the best seller amongst his collection as he is blatantly illiterate and has horrible business acumen.
Also, this is a parody of self-help books in general and it is at times offensive. Like, most times offensive...I would ballpark it at around seventy percent. I know that's high but I'm just here to manage your expectations. This book might change your life though. I mean, honestly, it probably won't. But let's say it will. I mean, other books do that, and they get away with it completely so I don't see why I can't. This guide will definitely change your life for the better. If it doesn't, that is absolutely your fault, and you should look into self-help books or therapy--or something.

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Story
An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Quick listen and lots of laughs
A humorous and oftentimes LOL look at our pursuit of happiness. The author’s views are spot on and frequently evoke that AHA moment or two. I appreciate the narrator’s approach to what could have come across as too vulgar or crass for some. Instead her casual, non-aggressive manner throughout the book made it similar to listening to any traditional self-help book. Yet this is anything but your typical self-help narrative, which made it all the more funny. Loved this!

Decent parody, mediocre narration
The book itself was entertaining and has actual self-help info communicated in a funny manner. This parody would probably come across better in actual book form though. The narrator was just okay, but I didn't feel like the sass was fully captured, and it wasn't as funny as I hoped it would be based on the narration. It just fell a bit flat. I would normally be able to finish an audiobook of this length in one sitting, but I kept pausing and coming back to it later instead of just finishing it.
