You have nothing to lose; if anything you have EVERYTHING to gain by listening to this book...

Both thorough and crisp, Natasha Rae Simmons tries her best to explain what social anxiety is, how avoidance and other safety behaviors only serve to aggravate its symptoms, and how teenagers can learn to cope with it, and eventually overcome this disorder. Even as she talks about the typical and more taboo aspects of social anxiety in this book, Natasha never blames or shames a teen for being socially anxious. She covers these topics from an empathetic point of view because she's been there and dealt with the same struggles. In this workbook, she talks directly to the socially anxious teen in a clear, direct, and compassionate way.

This indispensable workbook lays out practical steps grounded in the latest evidence-based research following extensive behavioral science groundwork. That's why this book has been written. This book provides you with all the tools you need to thrive in your teenage years—at home, in school, and later in life.

In this book, you'll get to learn that anxiety isn't:

  • A mental illness.
  • Proof that you are weak or weird.
  • You'll be stuck with it for life.
  • A personality disorder.
  • Just shyness or fear.
  • Being introverted.
  • Random occasional nerves.

The best news is that anxiety can be overcome, and it can never bully you unless you give it that power. The only reason it has power over you right now is that you haven't learned its tricks and weaknesses yet.

Having found what worked for her, Natasha bares it all to share her heart and approach to dealing with this disorder. Listen to it and apply it.

Great book for struggling teenagers

This book was informative and helpful in dealing with social anxiety as a teenager. As we all know, the teenage years are some of the hardest when facing the social world, as we are forced out of our comfort zone with work, college, etc. From listening to this book, my mind has been put to ease, and I am much more capable of calming and even curing my anxiety with this newfound confidence.

Parts of the book I partially related to were the explanations of overactive thought, which leads to stress and social anxiety. I have faced this vicious cycle, and I am sure many others do as well. The author gives you sound advice on dealing with and overcoming these thoughts.

I also gained a lot of value from the advice and the benefits of exercise to help with social anxiety, as I have been going to the gym for the past few months and have noticed a massive difference. This must be the effect of the endorphins mentioned in the book, leading to a sense of happiness. I will also introduce the self-care mentioned in the book, which I believe will further enhance my mental well-being.

Overall, it is a great book, and I highly recommend it to teenagers struggling with social anxieties.

Help for Teens!

This is a fantastic audiobook, and I think teenagers who suffer from social anxiety will really benefit from it. I was struck by the advice about not avoiding social situations (when you are feeling anxious.) I am far from a teenager, but that is what I have always done...and now after listening to the author's explanation, I can now see how avoiding the anxiety-inducing situations never really helped me and in fact probably made my anxiety worse. This is such a gift I can give to my kids, to teach them through this audiobook not to make the same mistakes I did. I think this audiobook is great for teens and will make them feel empowered, and hopeful, not judged.

Anxious Teen no more

As we all know a lot of things happens in our teenage years, while some of them is good other is bad, anxiety should not be one of them (we wish). I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The author talks about Social Anxiety and How we should not avoid it (as its usually what comes to mind first) as it only exacerbates it. She also mentioned about the common misconception of people about what anxiety really is (as a mental illness, that you are weird, etch) . I also loved that the author approaches this topic with care and empathy. So weather you are a parent who has a teenager or you are personally someone who is struggling with social anxiety this is for you. I highly recommended it. Very well done.

Well presented with solid practical information!

A great book examining social anxiety among our youth. The book defines, explores, and provides practical ways to modify your personal behaviors. I appreciate that the author gives tips for the individual to take action on. More specifically, I liked the sections on changing your personal behaviors and changing your thoughts. The chapter on Practical tips was great too as it was simple, straightforward, and helpful! Strongly recommend this book for not just teens but also parents, family members, and people who are concerned about our youth and how we can all help our society.

Tangible steps for teens

Being a mom is not easy especially if you watch your child struggle with the weight of anxiety. I have found that as my daughter gets older, her anxiety is hitting new heights. I think this is with the thought of graduating high school and she is not quite sure what she wants to do after she graduates. My daughter is bright and lively but her anxiety continues to spiral up and more out of control. I have seen her retreat from her friends and has a hard time staying at school for the whole day. We have been trying to get her to join some outside clubs or social groups but she wants to stay home and hang out in her room. We desperately needed something to help her.

I found this book to be insanely helpful. I wanted to listen to the book before I gave the book over to her and found that the author's writing was right on point when speaking to a teen. The tone is not patronizing or overly clinical. Instead, the author takes a guiding approach to help young adults see that the anxiety they are feeling can be overcome with simple strategies. So, I ended up asking my daughter to listen to this book and she thoroughly enjoyed it. She had several aha moments realizing how her patterns of behavior were feeding her anxiety and making them worse. She has since started to take actions to help interrupt her negative thoughts to help redirect them into more positive ones.

For any parent who has a teen battling with anxiety, this is a great book to get in front of them to help them realize that they are not alone and that what they are feeling can be changed and controlled.

We really loved it!

I'm not sure who likes this audiobook more, me, or my 16 year old. If you're a teen struggling with social anxiety, this is a great resource for you. The author, who has been there and dealt with the same struggles, never blames or shames teens for being socially anxious. Everything is handled in a clear, direct, and compassionate way. This lays out practical steps, providing all the tools you need. It's true nothing is weird about having feelings outside your comfort zone. Lots of love and care have gone into this production. Thanks for the great job.
