About this listen

Aldric's position as a professor of magic at Nevis academy has finally given the man a home. But between his eager young students wanting to know everything about him and this upcoming tournament, Aldric can't help but be filled with unease. They've already been attacked, after all. Are they really safe? Foolish question. Even after all these years, Aldric somehow forgot the world's oldest truths; that nothing is at it seems, and everyone is looking for their own angle. Aldric has no idea who to trust, or even who his real enemies are. And to top it all off, all three warring countries are now coming together for the first time in decades, right in Aldric's new backyard. Aldric better have meant it when he said he'd prepare his new family for the worst. Because they're about to be tested.

This entire series has been a fantastic read (and listen!) and I can't recommend it enough. I've read all the print books available to-date and recently obtained the audiobook for this, the 2nd book in the series. It was so fun to again interact with Aldric, his friends, and his students via this audiobook and I found that I noticed more details and was even more engaged in the story than when I had read the print version, something that I did not expect at all. Griffin does a superb job bringing the story and characters to life and his voice is pleasant to the ear, making the entire listening experience a great one. He brought out the drama and emotion of the story in a way that made the entire story come to life. It made my long, boring drive go by a lot faster and a lot more enjoyably.

I can't recommend this audiobook enough -- it is well-worth it, whether this is your first introduction to Aldric and the various friends and students that make up his "family", or you are revisiting the story after having already read the print version. This is a definite must-listen for anyone!

An engaging performance of this wonderful story!

Love this book, and the entire series! I highly recommend it - the story keeps you captivated the entire time, waiting to hear what comes next. You really are brought along on Aldric's journey, and feel at home amongst the family he has put together - creating an immersive reading experience from start to finish. Aldric's journey serves as the backbone of the story, but it's the family he builds along the way that gives the narrative its heart. Each character is intriguing, and enriches the main story line. Overall, great work by the author. Griffin does a top job narrating and bringing a great story to life. He was able to really draw out the emotional impact of scenes, making the emotion hit all that much harder. Audio quality was great, and it was very pleasant to listen to. A must-read (or must-listen)!

Captivating! Great story and pacing
