About this listen

Get ready for lost wills, broody dukes, and scorching hot kissing all over London in Rules for Engaging the Earl by Janna MacGregor.

Constance Lysander needs a husband. Or, so society says. She's about to give birth to her late husband's child—a man who left her with zero money, and two other wives she didn't know about. Thankfully, she has her Aunt by her side, and the two other wives have become close friends. But still—with a baby on the way, her shipping business to run, and an enemy skulking about, she has no time to find the perfect match.

Enter Jonathan, Earl of Sykeston. Returned war hero and Constance's childhood best friend, his reentry into society has been harsh. Maligned for an injury he received in the line of duty, Jonathan prefers to stay out of sight. It's the only way to keep his heart from completely crumbling. But when a missive from Constance requests his presence—to their marriage ceremony—Jonathan is on board. His feelings for Constance run deep, and he'll do anything to make her happy, though it means risking his already bruised heart.

With Constance, Jonathan, and the new baby all together, it's clear the wounds—both on the surface and in their relationship—run deep. But when the nights come, their wounds begin to heal, and both come to realize that their marriage of convenience is so much more than just a bargain.

Absolutely Fabulous

I absolutely loved this story. I couldn’t put it down . Second in the series and I can’t wait for the third. Janna MacGregor and Rosalyn Landor are a combination that can’t be beat ! This is the best book I’ve read since I’ve finished A Duke in Time !!! Highly recommended!!

Fun story!

I love the next part of the trio of women n the series. I thought it was a fun story and enjoyed listening to it. Some things annoyed me throughout like how the hero seemed to have pity for himself all the time. That’s part of the story but it bugged me. He got better at the end. Overall I enjoyed it.
And Rosalyn Landor is amazing as always. She’s one of my fav narrators.
Now on to the third book!

Kind of pathetic hero

Jonathan, the earl in the title, is tenaciously pathetic for all but the first and last part of the 12-hour story. For at least ten hours, he grovels in self-pity while Constance is a strong, patient heroine that he doesn't deserve. There is way too much time spent on his wallowing in misery and then at the end, he suddenly makes a 180-degree turn-around into the hero. In minutes, he gets some strong rebukes by friends, he shares his feelings of misery with another former soldier, and in a blink he comes to his senses and saves the day. I can't recommend this story.

Annoyingly simplistic plot

The plot line is thin, so it feels dragged out. The problems just aren’t that interesting or deep. And then there is the over the top sappy stuff. If you want a light read with little substance you might like it.
