Loved this!!

Savage

This is the first book I have read/listened to by SL Scott! Savage is book one of the Kingwood Series and I just know the ones to follow will be just as good!

Alexander and Sara’s story is full of various emotions and SL Scott gives us each one and they are heartfelt but the addition to this are the narrators that did the audio version of this book!

My two favorite narrators, Aiden Snow and Meg Sylvan are Alexander and Sara and they each are absolutely perfect for these characters!

Story was’t for me but great narration

I’ve seen so many amazing reviews for this book but I found myself frustrated as I listened. It’s probably me, I couldn’t relate to the characters and I didn’t feel an emotional connection between the two of them. I felt they were immature, he was controlling and she needed to stand up for herself. With that being said, I say it’s a sign of a great writer who can pull all the emotions out of a reader/listener with their words.

Alexander and Sarah Jane’s relationship is hard to describe…toxic, passionate, controlling…. They do love one another but seem to be constantly at odds.

The cliffy is a doozy.

Aiden Snow and Meg Sylvan did a great job with the narration. They gave the characters great voice, personality and emotion.

Fabulous story!

This story begins when the protagonists are almost 18 and 19, so it has a YA vibe at the beginning. For the next 3 years, the plot advances and I had to stop to remember that they were still young adults. Alexander Kingwood IV crossed paths with Sara Jane Grayson in high school and they were immediately drawn to one another to the extent that Alex was already considering Sara Jane his girl. It was general knowledge that Alex was a bad boy, a gorgeous and powerful bad boy, but Sara sees right through to his heart. The setting and the world in which they live is slowly revealed and it's a showplace of riches with a sinister, evil core. As the story opens, Alex is devastated because he's just come from his mother's funeral and is reliving all the doubts and suspicions he has of her death. It's evident that he and his father have a hostile, angry relationship and don't see eye to eye how the family business should be run. Alex's safe place is Sara and he's forthcoming as to how much he loves her, but in the same breath he gives her a nudge to leave him in the belief that he's keeping her safe. I have to admit that Alex gave me whiplash with his back and forth, push and pull treatment of Sara Jane, and he was sometimes cruel when he let her see him with another woman in an attempt to get her to leave him. Like I said, a severe case of whiplash! But, in the end, his love for her was evident and all-encompassing and Sara loved him with every fiber of her being. When Alex ramps up the investigation into the death of his mother, there are some surprising twists and those that are truly painful. When there's a tragedy involving Alex's detestable father, Sara Jane walks away and, ironically, fulfills Alex's wishes. That was hard for me to accept as part of her character, but the separation was necessary for the next act of the book. There's a brutal cliffhanger and we're left not knowing who's going to live or die, and I'm counting the minutes until the next book is released.
Aiden Snow and Meg Sylvan do an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them with their emotions, attitude and personality. They do more than give their characters their voices, they capture their emotions as well.

Can't wait for book 2!!

This book had me twisted up!! Most of the time I felt like I needed to go back and re-read/re-listen just to make sure that I had things straight.

King is a man who knows what he wants when it comes to Sara Jane. Unfortunately, his life isn't his own. We don't find that out all at once though. It's fed to us in snippets throughout the book, just like Sara Jane finds out. It's heartbreaking and infuriating. I found myself just raging at the plot line, feeling like I was on a never ending rollercoaster.

King's dear old father, note the word there because it's important, is a heinous excuse for a human being. His actions are deplorable and nearly undigestible.

The emotional toll that the third act of this book took on me was intense. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a crier. I will sob like a baby at the littlest of things. However, this one had me wailing and struggling to catch my breath. AND! ANDDDDD!! It's a cliffhanger! AGH!

I can hardly wait for book 2!

The audiobook was excellent. The narrators were on point with emotion and tone inflection. I highly recommend listening if audio is your thing.
