Publisher's summary

The Earth has been overrun with monsters....

Post-apocalypse America is unrecognizable from the past. Jake survives by working as the leader of a scavenging adventuring team. A former mage, now he follows the strange path of cultivation, taught to him by a mysterious traveler.

As far as he knows, he is one of the only people on Earth with this power.

Events will unfold that change Jake's life forever. Jake might even lose his very humanity while trying to do the right thing. But in return, perhaps he will grasp a second chance to save himself and others, to correct the past. He is about to be caught up in something much greater than himself.

Will he be consumed by the machinations of greater powers? Only one thing is for certain. No matter how terrible the odds, Jake doesn't give up.

Experience the start of the next hit LitRPG series from best seller Blaise Corvin. This is a cultivation story with elements of Eastern fantasy but also includes LitRPG and GameLit tropes. Perfect for fans of Dave Willmarth, Tao Wong, and Shadowrun.

Excellent new series

This is a wonderful new series from a great author. The world building and MC advancement is very well done and not overwhelming. This is a solid cultivation story with some game elements but no crunch.

The MC is very likable and his progression makes sense. He doesn’t randomly go against his nature and explain it away like it doesn’t matter. He evolves and learns and grows. Lots of puns there but we will leave that alone.

The world is built up in a great way and you do still have questions but they make sense. You are given the understanding that the MC has if not a little less but it makes sense in this story not to be given al the pieces.

Luke Daniels of course does a fantastic job as always. He puts in effort and brings these characters to life. He makes the story have real emotion and it shows he is trying.

Fun cultivation book

finally not a rage filled MC that's a complete idiot that survives all from luck. or a book that focuses on getting women and not an actual story.

cultivation wise it's really light in detail but it works out great nit hours and hours of "I pull chi through this tunnel to build this meridian" I mean it goes in just one detail that you feel the growth but doesn't detract form the story

perfomance wise its luke Daniel's so you know its gonna be good I'd give 9/10 compared to most other cultivation or litrpg. 7.5/10 in overall fantasy

Great Spin on the Typical

Slow at the start, made me wonder if I had accidentally gotten book 2 because they threw a lot of names at me like I should be invested in them. After that tho the story gets interesting quickly, I'm definitely getting the next book when it's available.

it's good

I think this series is as good as Dover's LLC series that he's written. I really like it. I like the main character. I like the plot. I like the world. I like the steaks. it's just an enjoyable book. if you like other things please. Corbin has written you like this one. the only thing I should warn you about is that the very beginning is very very dark and things are going super bad and you're like there's no way they can recover from this. he gets the character a very clever way or himself. a very clever way too. show how bad things could be and put the reader in a position to know the stakes. so I don't want to give away any plot points. I'm being super vague on purpose but it's really discouraging reading it because you're like. how is he going to get out of this? this is this terrible so you just need to not freak out in the beginning and then once the plot gets rolling and his feet hit the ground then you're in for a good ride. there's so much potential in this series. I'm really looking forward to the third book. the second one's already out so the third one's coming up. really looking forward to it. I'm right in this review with voice to text so it's not as coherent as it could be. I'm sorry but I hope this is helpful to somebody

Outstanding again

I have listened to a lot of books by Blaise Corvin and a lot of books narrated by Luke Daniels. This book was a fantastic listen like all of the others and can’t wait to get the 2nd book in this series.

Good author and Luke Daniels is always good.

Blaise Corbin seems to a pretty good author and I like that these books are not filled with repeats of players stats and other copy paste type fill of content.

started a little slow

slow start for the first few hours imo, then it picked up to a good pace. leaves off at a good spot. will get the next book. very basic magic and cultivation. nothing in depth, but doesnt really need to be. its mainly meant to take you on an adventure theough story. i like the basis of the universal issue, it makes sense and flows for a broad range of things to happen.
