About this listen

Wayne dreamed of piloting a thirty-foot-tall walking robot that was closer to a battle-tank than anything else.

They were called Walkers. They were armed with laser cannons, rockets, missiles, and heavy kinetic weapons more similar to artillery pieces than guns, and everything that went with that.

Unfortunately, he had been declined military service. His only avenue left to become a Walker Pilot was to make it happen all on his own. Under his own power. With his own hands. Literally.

Working his fingers to the bone, saving all he could, and digging through junkyards and salvage pits, Wayne made it happen. One part at a time.

He was now, finally, at the starting line.

Having built a very rough Walker that he had cobbled together himself, he scavenged a few weapons that were perfect for starting out and had just enough money to afford ammunition. His long-term dream was just about to start. Perhaps he would even form his own Walker Mercenary company and hire people to work with him.

Except just as he finally moves forward, his home world is about to take a gigantic leap backward—with Wayne at the center of it all, without ever truly realizing it.

Good book

I didn’t like book reports in school. I love this author’s work.

Adding words to meet the absurd minimum word count.

5 stars for the enjoyment!

This story hit several of my preferences from the get-go.

1. A character with good observational skills and a lack of social acumen (without any "big dog" a-hole energy)
2. A fairly decent Mech story
3. An oddball team
4. A large and developing universe with intriguing details

The story itself is easily digestible while still delivering just enough visual imagery and emotional feeling to avoid being simplistic.

Great book but different writing style than usual.

I'll start out by saying I really enjoyed this book. Strangely though this did not seem like a William D Arand book. At least the first half definitely seemed like it was written by someone else. It's not his normal style of writing. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the second one this just didn't seem like one of his normal books. The narration was Top Notch and I think he picked a great choice for the narration team. I give this book Five Stars.

great fun

Excellent gamelit feel to what could be an indie Mechwarrior game.
Main character is likable and a touch crass.
Narration on the narrative lines lean towards droll, BUT the voice acting line are very well done.
Rebecca Woods absolutely killed it, multiple characters, each one distinct and delivered soundly. I will be buying more of her work.

William strikes gold

as an avid WDA fan this book gleams with an amazing story, fantastic narration from both male and female narrators (to the point that I am going to look for both of their work and add it to my tbr list) and the characters were Fkn! amazing. I love this little group.

Mechwarrior's Wanted

If you are at all a fan of Armoredcore, BattleTech, Mechwarrior or Robotech, then this book will keep you wanting more.

This title brings you everything you'd expect from W.D.A.'s works and is a Mech-Ton of fun.

I highly recommend the book

I've enjoyed quite a few performances by this narration team. they did a fantastic job here as well. I'm a fan of most of this authors work and I quite enjoyed the story. I am curious as to whether he will be tying it into the greater universe. I don't see why I wouldn't so there does appear to be one outlier under a third pen name that I'm not sure he's ever going to go back to. our main character appears to be something of an orphan. his parents did whatever it took to get them out of abject poverty so that their son could grow up poor. sorted the difference between having to eat rats to live and only having to subsist on creamed corn sandwiches. our Intrepid Hero couples together enough junkyard parts to make his own Walker. is slow going getting that first mission but after that things start really picking up pace. our character is in a vastly different place of a completely alien social status by the end of the book. the lady is also come in hot and heavy though there are no spicy scenes. a very interested in a book too.
