Sometimes, you shouldn't go home....
For years, the abandoned MacKenzie mansion remained hidden in rural Wisconsin. Rumors and stories of apparitions, odd noises, accidents, and strange deaths in or near the property were enough to convince the townsfolk it was haunted, and they stayed away.
Lucas MacKenzie and his brother, Nate, know nothing of this when they inherit the property and decide to bring their families to Wisconsin for a major renovation project with HGTV stardom in mind. As they tear out old fixtures and open shuttered windows, the house begins to reveal secrets of a terrible past, and it soon becomes clear the MacKenzies are in grave danger. In the end, only one person can save them.

Great book - atmospheric, smart, surprising story

The story is a little random in its characters. Like, I really wasn't expecting modern day wizards. That's not really how the description reads and its not exactly my cup of tea.
Also, the main character annoyed me in just how long she went back and forth with the whole denial and acceptance thing. It just kept going back and forth for way too long and way too many times. Made the story feel like it was dragging at times and just readdressing the same things over and over instead of actually getting into the haunting.
That all being said, it's not the worst book and is worth a listen if you like horror and magic.
Good, but a little random & annoying
