Publisher's summary

Felix Allsey is a travel writer with a keen eye for the paranormal, and he's carved out a unique, if only slightly lucrative, niche for himself in nonfiction; he writes travelogues of the country's most haunted places, after haunting them himself.

When he convinces the owner of the infamous Rotterdam Mansion to let him stay on the premises for two weeks, he believes he's finally found the location that will bring him a best seller. As with his other gigs, he sets rules for himself: no leaving the house for any reason, refrain from outside contact, and sleep during the day.

When Thomas Ruth, Felix's oldest friend and fellow horror film obsessive, joins him on the project, the two dance around a recent and unspeakably painful rough patch in their friendship, but eventually fall into their old rhythms of dark humor and movie trivia. That's when things start going wrong: screams from upstairs, figures in the thresholds, and more than what should be in any basement. Felix realizes the book he's writing, and his very state of mind, is tilting from nonfiction into all-out horror, and the shocking climax answers a question that's been staring these men in the face all along: In Rotter House, who's haunting who?

Delivers, delivers, delivers!

I had high hopes for this book after reading both the summary and some reviews. It delivered in every arena!
The narrative was spot on and gave us a roller-coaster of emotions.
The tale unfolded at a slow pace but once the coaster hit the top, it was all over the tracks! Tricks, hints, puzzlers....a plethora (a word I love!) of things to jump out.
Excellent job- I can’t wait to find a new tale.

A Great Story!!!!

I liked everything! There was nothing to dislike. This writer got it perfect in one fell swoop. The narrator was amazing. This was ended wonderfully! Not too drawn out. Just done right. Kudos to writer and narrator! Other writers need to take notes as well as narrators.

Methodical

First of all the narrator was incredible and his voice kept me listening. I truly enjoyed this building of a story and was not disappointed. It’s actually came to enjoy the relationships and background of these two friends and their outcome.

could have been better, good read for work

I found myself hating the protagonist, since he didn't seem to really mesh with what was happening. the ending does explain why, and is satisfactory at first, but then you start to think about the earlier events of the book. I'd like more "meat" to the story, the ending was pretty abrupt. book equivalent to a crappy scary movie where you laughed sometimes, got pissed at other times, and still had a good time passing the hours by. narrator did a good job

Hidden gem

Ran out of books to read and gave this a chance.
I was surprisingly pleased. I plan on keeping this one in my library . It was one of those reads that came along during a dry spell and really came through for me. not too long or too short . plenty of twists. The ending was a bit disappointing but not until the very end.

Very interesting

It gets you. I loved being involved for hours. I feared the end but it was ok! Not dull at all.

A little drawn out

A little drawn out with an ending that was meh. Good imagery and concepts and easy to play the movie game along with the characters.

Not as haunting …until the end

Since it was a fairly short read, I didn’t mind but it felt lacking in the “haunts” until the twist at the end, everything came crashing down, a bit more sad than horror but a good finale.
