About this listen

A lone warrior. A world destroyed. A chance to start again.

Ever since he was little, Merrick had been blessed by the Great Spirits granting him an unusually strong connection to the Song of the World.

With his Warrior Ceremony approaching, Merrick was sure his greatest wish was about to come true, never expecting he was going to be thrown into a torrent of change that would threaten to sweep away his whole world.

Invaders from another world were beginning to creep into his people’s land, intent on devouring every resource they could find, and when Merrick offers to act as a guide for a rich young prospector’s group, he finds he may have bit off more than he can chew.

Fierce wolves stalk the dark, and poisonous insects hide under every leaf, but the true danger lurks in the hearts of his companions as he ventures out into the untamed wilds to seek a treasure he knows nothing about.

Armed with a Guardian Spirit he doesn’t understand and strange knowledge of the future, it will take every ounce of courage and fortitude Merrick can muster to make it out of the mountains alive.

Don't miss the next action-packed LitRPG adventure from Seth Ring, bestselling author of Battle Mage Farmer & Nova Terra.

Great entrance to the series

!!For people who don’t use whisper sync also be aware that the book has some pictures that are cool!!

Very interesting world building, good pacing, a bit too much of an “emotionless” MC that goes with the flow but that improves with time. The narration was good as well, way too quick (usually listen at 1.2x, could barely keep up at 1 here) and you feel many words are eaten as part of it but also gets better.

incredible story telling

Seth Ring is one of my favorite authors. He is very lifted at story telling, creating wolds, and plot twists.

I really wanna get the next book! I wanna know what Merrick is up to...

I find that along, with Merrick, I'm excited to find out what happens next! I really, really can't wait for book2...
The book begins when the MC takes his rites of passage test that all teens half'a take before entering adulthood. Of course Merrick is sure he'll pass, because hasn't he heard the World Song his whole life. So ta' him this is just a formally, a stepping stone. But, something went wrong, while running he slips out of control, off the path and into a raging river, seemingly tumbling down forever and into a boxed canyon! This is where the fun really begins. Grab the audiobook to see if Merrick can climb outta his calamity and power up. Plus there's lots more fun too.
Serious Peter Kenny has a way of delivering the lines which are a little like Jackie Meloche a narrator I dislike, but Peter's narration somehow sounds unoffencively... so yeah it turns out that I like him!

Great!… The author definitely left me wanting more.

Another good story by Seth Ring. This book was jam-packed with plot, adventure, and character development, though the RPG elements are a bit subdued compared to the genre standard… but that’s not a criticism.

The only thing that could have made this better would have been if it was another 4 to 6 hours longer. And by that I don’t mean that the book felt short so much as a comment about where the author decided to end the book. The place where the story stops makes this audiobook almost feel like a prequel.

Still, I was wholly engaged throughout and (despite my complaint) equally satisfied upon completion. I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here.

A sci-fi call of the wild story

The setting of this book reminds me of the Jack London sci-fi story. Highly recommend anyone who is a fan, London. It was a little slow to start, but I really enjoyed the ending. The narrator did a great job blessing different characters.

Another great world to explore

It is the mark of a great story that you were disappointed that it reached its end. I hope there will be another book as I can’t wait to read/listen to what happens next the voiceover performance was phenomenal.

Excellent Entry to a Promising Series

This is good stuff. Ring's writing seems to be getting better (I'm not really sure if this is a recent creation, but it is a recent release), the storytelling is graceful and development feels masterful. New world, new system, and a solid entry into the LitRPG genre. I'm a sucker for origin stories and this first entry into the series is a home run. It's a classic, well-handled intro and a solid foundation for further development.
There's uncommon depth to the story - it doesn't rely on soon-to-be outdated humor or language. There are hints at common tropes, but they are sheathed in heaps of original setting material. I'm really looking forward to where this story goes.

The performance is poised and well-intoned. It took me a couple hours to get drawn in and focused. I did fall asleep a few times, but that's a good thing for me. I'd rather have consistency with tone than overdramatic, over-animated efforts. I'll be looking for more of Kenny's works.

I highly recommend this if you're into the LitRPG genre as it feels like it could be one of the classics some day. We'll see how Mr. Ring fleshes out this new world.

Never doubted it for a second!

Seth Ring has easily broken into my top 3 when it comes to fantasy / progression / litrpg. I say this because his books have a unique mix and it’s kind of hard to pin them down to one specific genre. It’s a good start to this series. I’m just hoping it extends through several books. Interesting, smart and likable MC. The story line is unique and it just feels like there are future books waiting to be written. Narration is good as well. The stat system while not super focused on, pops up in just right times throughout the book to keep you interested and curious on how it will progress. Honestly it could pop up more often and I wouldn’t be mad. I never right reviews and have a library of 1000+ all sci-fi / fantasy / litrpg, so I feel one is due. I have read all Seths other series and it looks like I’ll be following this one as well. Good job bud!

Struggle bus

I love these books and have listened to every one. This one was a struggle for me it seems less coherent, especially for the first book and a series. I not sure if it’s the read’s style or who this book is written that was difficult for me. I’m probably going to look for the book and see if reading it myself makes it better.
