About this listen

Alvin woke in a room that was not his, to discover that he had died and his brain had been bargained off cheaply to pay off someone else’s debt. It did not sit well with him. It didn’t surprise him that even in death, people were still using him for their own purposes. He had never exactly been a good guy, but everyone had their breaking point, and he had found his.

The bastards in charge had uploaded his mind into a virtual death game. The whole world could now pay to see him play it and probably die. Alvin questioned whether he was really a bad guy, if this is how they wanted to treat him. Regardless, he was not about to wait for death to come for him. He would kick open the damn Apocalypse Gates and see about crushing everything that challenged him. It was time to make the world aware that he was done with pretending to be nice.

Welcome to Apocalypse Gates!

(This audiobook contains adult themes, including gore, death, drug use, and graphic sex.)

The book starts off nicely, with a good pace. Ends with a bit to much sex. And too be honest I cringed a bid over the sex content.
Overall a good book, with a great story. Shame with standstill ending more focus on sex.

Going to try the next installment. But if it keeps on with the sex, I will probably drop it.

Great start

great story, pretty unique premise and excited to see where it goes from here. I think the narrator did a great job.

could do without the unnecessary and gratuitous scenes between Al and Gothy (Becky). I understand that they are young (he's 26 ish and she's 18), but I could do without the too often overly detailed sexual interactions. I think there is a way to show they're young and in lust without the overtly graphic detail.

I am looking forward to the next installment, but if it continues at the same pace in the next book, I probably won't finish.

great, but could do without certain parts

Absolutely loved the audio, even moreso than just reading it. Andrea brings all the characters to amazing life.

3 Cheers for Apocalypse Gates

I immensely enjoyed the build-up of the story, the pacing, and overall character development.
The balance of Tension vs. Action only made a wonderfully imaginative setting more real.
While I'm not opposed to free expressions of intense physical interest, I ultimately took umbrage with the pathological inconsistencies. The emotional release from otherwise (self-proclaimed) emotionally stunted characters came without catharsis. There was no struggle or conflict they had to overcome, making it all feel like a contrived, dishonest plot device. While I saw the need to utilize it as a means to move characters along toward expansion, the lack of resolution ultimately took me out of the story. Since all of this broke down for me in the last three chapters, I stuck around for the end, but I don't think I'll continue the series.

Best of luck, Daniel.

Just not for me

This book is really only about 3 hrs long....The rest is pointless, poorly written, sex scenes!!!
But of the 3hrs of actual story it is a great book....After all the sex started in this book and the 2 following that I have also listened too, I fast forwarded thru the ever increasing number of scenes.

Andrea Parsneau does a very good job of narration.

TOO Much Sex

I want to preface this review with a comment. After reading the synopsis and listener reviews, I was interested but not sure how good it would be. I expected a decent gamelit/litrpg story with zombies and a lot of sex. Yes, there was a fair amount of sex, but I didn't think it was as pornographic as some people indicated. It's not a harem story and there is actually a fair amount of depth to Alvin and Becky's relationship. Anyway, this book was FAR better than I expected it to be. Andrea Parsneau's narration was fantastic and truly brought the story to life. The game mechanics were interesting and different from many of the others out there. I am most certainly looking forward to the next book in the series.

So much better than I first thought

This was a fun death game story with zombies! Narrator did a great job. All in all a great listen.

Great zombie apocalypse

the sex in the second half of the story was wayyyy to in-depth and prevalent. I found it to not only take away from the story but basically make a decent story line in to a bad porno plot.

second half made the book in to a bad porno plot

The first half is phenomenal... and then the main character meets a gal and the author chooses to to write nonstop sex scenes that cause involuntary eye rolls.

From zombies to smut in half a novel.

Oh, just get on with it!
