About this listen

Can yoga and meditation unleash our inherent supernormal mental powers, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition? Is it really possible to perceive another person's thoughts and intentions? Influence objects with our minds? Envision future events? And is it possible that some of the superpowers described in ancient legends, science fiction, and comic books are actually real, and patiently waiting for us behind the scenes? Are we now poised for an evolutionary trigger to pull the switch and release our full potentials?

Dean Radin, Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and best-selling author of The Conscious Universe, presents persuasive new experimental evidence for the existence of such phenomena. He takes us on a thrilling scientific journey and challenges outdated assumptions that these abilities are mere superstition. Focusing on Patanjali's mysterious Yoga Sutras - 2,000 year-old meditation practices believed to release our extraordinary powers - Radin offers powerful evidence confirming that sometimes fact is much stranger, spookier, and more wonderful than the wildest fiction.

Important book by brilliant scientist (but not great narration)

Dean Radin is a truly brilliant mind and engaging writer who is both meticulous and engaging - no easy feat. Only complaint is the narration. At several points I was unsure if this was read by a computer - extremely dry, robotic delivery by a narrator who seemed unfamiliar with the terms and general content (e.g. mispronouncing chi like “chai”). Dr. Radin is such an engaging and witty speaker - would have been so much better if he had narrated this work. But still with purchasing.

I love Dean Radin

Another great book from one of my favorite authors. It's time to put conciousness where it belongs in our understanding of the universe. It's fundamental.

Highly technical aspects occasionally hamper readability

I read this book immediately after finishing Radin’s book Real Magic. Both books do a great job in providing citations and case study methodology which have been historically applied to the study of magic & siddhis.

This book seemed to get a little bogged down in the technical aspects of the statistical analysis and methods of conducting the studies which made it less of a page turner. That being said, as a critical examination of the history and methods of conducting research it is a worthwhile guide for those looking to conduct research & learn history. If you are looking for a lighter read, check out Real Magic.

mind, matter & consciousness explored

provides scientific evidence to show that the reality of psychic phenomenon is well established. there is more to the relationships between mind, matter and consciousness than can be understood using currently available research methods. what today seems like magic may one day be easily explained as we learn to explore how quantum physics impact the physical world we are most aware of.

Good, Real Magic may be better.

I preferred Real Magic, but this one is okay too. I am a PHD student so I was really interested in the scientific studies, but they are a bit hard to understand in audio form and would probably be better read in text if you care for the details. I hit the back button a lot because I really wanted to get it. If you just want the gist of things then by all means the audio version should be fine.

Great, informative read.

I suggest reading all the way through. Gets a little dry in the middle but it is very informative and interesting as a whole.

great balance of science and wisdom traditions

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes to any friend who has had questions about parapsychology or the 'side' effects (Siddhi's) from long time meditation.

Any additional comments?

This book is a wonderful balanced perspective on the study of exceptional human abilities. Radin offers an amazing integration of eastern wisdom philosophy and religious perspectives along with solid scientific perspectives. He also gives the reader a clear picture of why these topics have been taboo for so many years in the west. Thus the reader/listener can follow not only the traditional teachings but why science ignored these topics for so long and how far science has come in validating some of the topics. As with his You Tube talks his approach is solid and accessible. But here the reader gets far more detail for anyone thinking deeply about these topics is important. I'm a long time experimental psychologist doing research on dreams and more recently virtual worlds and felt so very informed and updated by this read. I highly recommend the book.

Wonderful book!

It gets a bit wordy and technical at some points due to the complex nature of the high-level topics discussed but it is an AMAZING book nonetheless.
