About this listen

I knew hot flashes were supposed to be hot, but I didn't expect flames.

One day I'm in anger management, normalizing the cordial hate between me and my husband.

The next, we're divorced, and he has taken both our house and the business we built together. I'm 40 years old and living above our empty restaurant, plotting my next move.

And then the world around starts lighting up - literally catching on fire. I'm starting to think my defining characteristic may not be my snark or my cupcake-baking prowess, but spontaneous combustion.

I'm done suppressing my anger. I'm done playing by other people's rules. Ready to take the reins on my destiny, I'm making the choices I used to be too afraid to make. Like my favorite cast iron skillet, women get better with age. And at 40, I know exactly who I am and what I want.

I'll embrace the fire and the fury. This is my life, and I'm in control.

Really unique series

I wasn’t so sure about this series at first, but I’m so glad I stayed with it. It’s so unique, not the same old tropes that have been dragged out a hundred times. It’s a fun, easy listen, the narrator is great, she manages different voices that add to the story without being too overt and distracting. No swearing, sex is mentioned but not described in cringy detail. Stay with the series until the very end, it’s worth it.

The mystery is wonderful

To much sex talk. They could have left it out as it’s not needed for story

Cookie cutter

I read this book right after I read the starlight witch, and they are basically the same story but slightly different. It’s not a bad book, cute and I like females being empowered! Just not super deep.
If you’re looking for a breezy read I would recommend this book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this first in a new series

I thoroughly enjoyed this first in a new series. Keira Blackwood has written an excellent first installment in her new series. The characters are well developed and soon seem more like friends than mere characters. Traci Odom, as always gave a stellar performance. I highly recommend this book/audiobook to cozy mystery fans.

DNF

I barely made it past chapter 3, but chapter 6 did me in. When a human’s behavior is so far outside the realm of reality that believing in vampires makes more sense? I’m done. Nobody walks into a house with their best friend, finds a charred head in an oven and blows it off when she doesn’t look. Nobody. Then proceeds to tour the house, finds a clearly blood spattered room and says, “Nah, that’s not blood. Now how can I afford this?” I keep trying to like these Midlife books, but they keep coming up desperately short.

It didn't keep my attention

This sounds like it could be a cute story but it just did not keep my attention. My mind was wandering so much I don't even know what the story is about. I'm going to get my credit back on this one.
