About this listen

No one expects their happily-ever-after to end at 40 - but here I am one Prince Charming short of a fairy tale.

Living back at Mom's place with her and Gram is not how this ex-district attorney intended to start the next chapter of her life, but I shouldn't be surprised it's where I ended up. You see, my family is cursed. Literally.

At least that's what both Gram and Mom claim. I've never given much thought to their ridiculous superstitions, but when three local patrons from my mom's occult shop end up dead, even I'm a bit unnerved.

So I decide to dive right into the crazy headfirst. And what I thought would be the end of my journey...may only be the beginning.

Loved this title and Journey! Very Halloweenie and fun! Great read - can’t wait to experience the rest of the series. Great for those aged 30-40+ young ladies for sure!

Predictable

This was very one dimensional for me. It wasn't very exciting or keep me interested. I will not be continuing the series.

Predictable but good

Definitely an acceptable series. To some who haven’t listened to a few thousand audiobooks this will be their favorite book for sure.

But ultimately, this is missing something. General plot ideas as summaries of what you wish to build, toward our immediately assumed to be packed without reasoning for the development. With time this writer should be able to correct this and you simply have to ignore it.

I feel like I should give it a lower score, but it’s hard to do so when you see potential.

Kind of predictable.

Cute story, interesting characters but I just couldn't get into it. I'm not crazy for the narrator. Maybe that would help.

Enjoyed up to the ending.

The story and reader were wonderful. My only complaint is that the book was Too short. ...Especially when the ending eludes to another book. The length leads to a cost vs Benefit deficit. Although it would be a good plane ride book start it on the west cost when you take your seat and it will be done just before you land on the east coast as long as there aren’t any layovers.

It was... Okay

This was a struggle to finish - mostly because I wanted to grab the main character, shake her, and tell here to get the bleep over herself. She manages a weird mix of being super whiny with overly aggressive that just rubbed me the wrong way. Add to that some of the "romance" portions were eye-roll inducing, and it made for a start and stop of a listen.

That being said, if you consider that the story/character did manage to evoke an emotional response - albeit not a positive one - it does make it a success at being able to pull the reader into the story; which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2.

40 or 14?

This novel had a lot of inconsistencies to me. The novel opens by explaining that the main character is a DA, and talks about how she and her husband drove Lamborghinis to work and how she put him through law school. Explains that they're divorcing after a very public affair on his part. For some reason, she's lost her job, is moving out of her house and back home to other side of the country.
Also, despite working as an attorney in Boston and living the kind of life where she was driving a Lamborghini, she's still shocked and appalled at the price of coffee, like she's never been to a Starbucks and makes comments about someone going hot and cold like the water in rich people's houses. Which is a weird comment to make since the book opened talking about her Lamborghini and Louboutins. Is she used to the finer things in life or not?

Then this logical woman who has been a high profile DA for seemingly years proceeds to act like an irrational teenager, not a 40 year old woman. For me, that was the most irritating part. She wasn't any smarter, or more mature than the main characters in a YA novel. It almost seems like this was originally written to be about a teen but threw in the divorce and DA career in a hasty attempt to appeal to the new mid-life trend. I won't be reading any more books in this series.
