About this listen

A quintessential soccer mom. A motorcycle-riding wild child. With two sisters like that, she could have done without provoking the dark fae....

Alys Stevens is running out of familiar road. Approaching the same age as her mother’s death and muddling through a messy divorce, the 40-something home renovator has lost the control she so deeply craves. So when her siblings show up demanding a girls' night full of fun, the three brew up an ancient family cocktail...and accidentally unleash powerful magic.

Baffled as they all develop uncanny powers, Alys watches on in part horror, part glee as a satisfying sinkhole swallows her vexing ex-husband’s car. And poking around in her family’s mysterious tree for answers arouses the unwanted attention of dangerous werewolves.

Can the newest in a long line of witches refurbish her run-down destiny, or will fate tear her to shreds?

Witch Way After Forty is the charming first book in the Silver Sisters paranormal women’s fiction series. If you like endearing characters, clever mysteries, and hilarious surprises, then you’ll love Jennifer L. Hart’s heartwarming adventure.

Pretty good

I enjoyed this book for the most part and would recommend it to anyone except for a select few. The author tells us that the girl's aunt died of ovarian cancer, I have ovarian cancer. I would rather that the author say simply "cancer" instead of the specific type of cancer as a lot of cancers can now be treated as chronic diseases rather than death sentences. Those of us with life-threatening illnesses don't enjoy having our diseases used as plot points and tripping over them without warning.

very interesting story...quite enjoyable however the narration left me flat. I couldn't really tell the difference from different characters so am reading the rest of the series.

Witch Way After Forty

Witch Way After Forty is a great beginning to Jennifer L. Hart's Silver Sisters Trilogy. It tells the story of Alys, Maeve and Siobhan, three ordinary women who after a night of revelry find they have been gifted with magical powers when they drunkenly mix up an empowerment brew. Although this is primarily Alys's story, the focus goes back and forth between the sisters setting the groundwork for the sisters's stories. Hart's WWAF is a very fun story that leaves the reader looking forward to the next book in her series. Narrator Jacqueline Rendell has done a great job bringing the story to life with her narration. I am really looking forward to listening to the rest of the trilogy! I definitely recommend this series to all who enjoy PWF. Ms. Hart has written a great tale that just makes me want to keeping reading!

Good Book

Alys, Maeve and Siobhan are sisters. Alys and Maeve are partners in a company, while Siobhan is the wild child. After leaving her husband, Alys goes to live at Aunt Jess' cottage. Sibby makes an empowerment potion that the sisters drink, the next day things begin to happen. I like the sisters, all the characters are so likable except Kyle. This book grabbed me from the first paragraph. This book is a fun and easy to follow read. Witch Way After Forty is the first book in a new PWF series. I have read a couple of Jennifer's series and they are all so good, so i have no doubt the next book in this series will be just as good. Well done Jennifer L. Hart.

Gotta say, I loved the Silver Sisters!

I was hooked by the first page. It was a great story line, the characters were well developed and well written. I loved how strong the sisters are and yet how vulnerable they are as all of us are at times. Narration was good, not perfect, there were times I couldn’t tell if it was Irish or Australian, but it was passable. Can’t wait to read the other books in the series! Good choice, highly recommend.

Magic & Three Sisters

Jennifer L Hart has written a creative and entertaining story about three sisters who decide to celebrate with a girl's night out. They whip up an old family recipe and then imbibe it. The next day each sister discovers that they each have their own magical powers developing within themselves. This is just the beginning of the story. I recommend this book to others who enjoy unique and magical stories. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Jacqueline Rendell's narration is great as her voice is expressive and adds to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Three flawed sisters with magical powers and great start to the series

I really enjoyed this female centered tale of the three sisters, Alys, Maeve and Sibby. Jacqueline Rendell did a fantastic job narrating the story. The three sisters were orphaned young and raised by their eccentric hippie aunt in a small cabin in the woods. When Alys (who is now 49) decides she needs a divorce from her cheating lazy husband, the sisters celebrate in the cabin and drink an empowerment brew. The brew awakens their magical powers. Now they need to contend with powers they do not know how to use along with the rest of their everyday problems. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, plot twists, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. It also includes witty dialogue, characters with depth, and an engaging storyline. Expect to laugh, to cry, to grit your teeth, to cringe, to shout, and to root for the sisters to harness their powers, find love, clean up some life messes, and defeat the bad guys. This is book one in a trilogy and while some minor subplots are resolved, there are still lots of unresolved, large and small, issues when the book ends. This was okay with me, I enjoyed the book enough to keep reading the next book in the series.
