Love is the adventure no one sees coming.
Joey Moore got her heart stomped on. At her engagement party. So, she did what any normal, completely rational 28-year-old would do - she moved to a new city with her dog to start a new life. Without much of a plan, it turns out.
Kendall O’Hara doesn’t enjoy chaos - at 42-years-old, she has a stable job and two cats she likes more than most people. Okay, all people, except her close-knit group of friends. She’s not boring. She’s just protecting her still-healing heart decades after a devastating loss.
When Joey and Kendall’s paths cross, a rocky start with an accidental laundry switch turns into an unlikely friendship. From there, the two friends make a pact to get out of their comfort zones, one piece of paper drawn from an “Adventure Jar” at a time. A growing mutual attraction leads them on an adventure that neither one might have expected....

In the mean time, Joey and Kendall experience adventures that they choose, as well as navigate through changes in their lives. They care for their pets (a dog, 2 cats, and 2 newborn kittens), and they spend time with family and friends. This story seems to have a bit of everything to enjoy, and all well balanced, as these two very different women become friends (and more?).
This is the first novel that I've read by Bryce Oakley, and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work!
I enjoyed listening to AJ Ferraro's narration, as well. It was very enjoyable to listen to!
Full of adventures...and pets!

Ok so cheering aside, I really liked this book because it was so light and fun. I don't really have anything deep to say about this book because I never got the feeling like there was any need to beyond the surface of the book, it's kind of like you get what you read. Overall just a nice fun read.
This is my first book narrated by AJ Ferraro, I'm always happy and applaud a narrator when they're willing to try and create different voices for different characters. AJ Ferraro is no different. My only complaint with her narration is that sometimes her voices kind of sound the same and I lose track of who's talking. Brava AJ Ferraro you definitely surprised me.
Overall: If you want something light and fun that you can finish in a day, I recommend this book.

The Adventurers is a book about finding love when you didn’t expect it. It’s about finally breaking out of your shell and doing things that you’re scared of. It’s about trying to find someone to go on that adventure with you… among lots of other things. Oakley seems to get that even though the two women in the story are different ages and potentially at different stages in life – we all want to feel like we’ve made something of our life. And Joey and Kendall definitely realize this and realize that they bring out the best in each other.
This story was seriously cute and had me smiling and laughing throughout. There were lots of scenes where they were making jokes at each other that were just so darn cute my cheeks hurt while listening to this. (One of the running jokes was the continuous “laundry thief” nickname since that was how their stories started to become entwined).
The narration by AJ Ferraro was great – I thought she really encompassed both women and did a great job voicing them and their emotions. A book I would definitely recommend, especially if you need to smile or laugh in these trying times. Honestly, my only complaint about this has nothing to do with the book. It’s that more of Oakley’s books aren’t available on audio (yet?).
